Grundig G8 Traveller II price drops

Grundig-G8-Traveller-IIMany thanks to SWLing Post reader, Mike (K8RAT), for informing me that the Grundig G8 Traveller II is now available for a close-out price of $34.98 at Universal Radio and $33.99 at Amazon.com.

I’m sure this low price is to make space for the new Eton Traveller III.

I owned a the G8 Traveller II for a few years and eventually gave it to a friend. It’s a simple radio, but quite an effective receiver. I love the international time dial (and glad they kept it on the Traveller III)–it came in handy when crossing time zones.

Negatives? Well there is no keypad for direct entry, very few controls and the receiver mutes between frequencies. Still, the audio is great and it gets high marks from me for MW/SW and FM reception.

For $35, it’s an excellent bargain for a handy, über-portable, travel radio. I’m tempted to buy another…

Grundig S450DLX now $34 via Blinq/Amazon

I just noticed that Blinq.com has the Grundig S450DLX on sale for $34.19 shipped. These units are described as used/open box and may show minor wear and/or come repackaged. I believe you can buy from Blinq with confidence; I once had to return a product and found that Blinq made the process hassle-free.

You can purchase directly from Blinq or via Amazon.com (click on “Other Sellers” new and used).

Grundig G5 via Blinq: Might want to pass…

G5While many SWLing Post readers have reported positively about their experience with the online discount retailer Blinq.com, several buyers have not been happy with the used/open box Grundig G5 units Blinq is selling for $45 US each.

Mike (K8RAT) noted that his G5’s “audio distorts when volume greater than 10 on the numerical read-out […] higher level sends the audio into oscillation.” Another buyer noted his G5 was nearly deaf on AM.

If you order a G5 from the Blinq, check out the radio thoroughly before tucking it away on a shelf somewhere. Or, better yet, just pass on this particular deal.

Fortunately, I’ve only received excellent reports of Blinq’s customer service. They’ve happily refunded consumers money for defective products in a timely fashion.

On a side note, I can only report negatively about the retailer 1Sale.com.  I’ve been trying for six weeks to receive a refund on a defective (non radio) item I purchased. I’ve still haven’t received a response from customer service. I’m sending my 6th request today;  I’ll never purchase from 1Sale.com again.

Grundig G2 sale, today only: $29.99 US shipped

Many thanks to SWLing Post reader, Ulis, who shares this excellent deal on the Grundig G2: $29.99 US shipped!

You must hurry, though, as the deal is only valid today, Friday, March 7, 2014. Click here to purchase.

Ulis mentioned that the G2 was his first purchase from the retailer (1sale.com), but since he could pay with PayPal and the deal was first mentioned by CNET, he purchased with added confidence.

Note that the G2 is not a perfect radio–check out my review of its cousin the DE1129–but at $29.99, it’s a steal.

If you missed this deal, try searching Amazon.com for the Grundig G2.
