Shortwave Radio Recordings: Radio Thailand English language service

Paul-Walker-Galena-Alaska

Many thanks to SWLing Post contributor, Paul Walker, who shares this recording from his home in Galena, Alaska. Paul notes:

Radio Thailand (13745 kHz) English service to North America at 0000UTC on November 8th, 2016:

Not the strongest I ever hear them, but a good solid clean nearly noise and nearly fade free signal.

That’s an impressive signal, Paul, especially considering the fact that propagation conditions have been somewhat shaky as of late. Thanks for sharing!

I listened to the 0000 to 0030 UTC English language broadcast of Radio Thailand World Service on 15590 kHz. Their signal was very strong SINPO 45544 at my home near Pittsburgh PA. Their program was something called ‘Morning News Hour’, with most segments in 10-minute intervals. Features news headlines, national news, business news, and a report on migrant workers living and working in Thailand. At 0030 UTC they switched to the Thail language. From what I have read they are using the VOA Udo Thani Thailand transmitter which operates at 500 kW. Several days earlier I did hear their 0200-to 0230 UTC with a very strong signal. So far, I have not found their current broadcast schedule.

I started the file and immediately when the music began to play, my native Thai wife looked over in great surprise and said, “Six O’clock!” Huh? I said. “That music. It is played every day at 8:00 am and 6:00 pm before the news.” It was nice for her to hear from home.

    Thanks, Ron W6AZ

Not a bad catch for a pretty routine station heard here on the West Coast often. I’m visiting with some DX friends on the East Coast this week. Not a usual catch here they tell me, but they do get Radio Thailand in English when the conditions are right.

Glad to see your still recording, just wondering if since you have time to do all that plus post, any chance of getting my QSL from you that you promised back in July? If not can you send my two bucks back? I’m tired of waiting actually. I saw where some other dude posted about it negatively on line. You really need to do something, don’t ya think?
