{"id":10861,"date":"2014-09-21T12:47:24","date_gmt":"2014-09-21T16:47:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/?p=10861"},"modified":"2014-09-21T12:50:33","modified_gmt":"2014-09-21T16:50:33","slug":"hearing-echoes-on-china-radio-international","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/2014\/09\/hearing-echoes-on-china-radio-international\/","title":{"rendered":"Hearing echoes on China Radio International"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/Earth.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-10863\" src=\"http:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/Earth.jpg\" alt=\"Earth\" width=\"640\" height=\"221\" srcset=\"https:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/Earth.jpg 640w, https:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/Earth-300x103.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Bill Meara, producer of the popular <a title=\"Soldersmoke!\" href=\"http:\/\/soldersmoke.blogspot.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">SolderSmoke Podcast<\/a>,\u00a0recently recorded audio echoes on a couple of his home brew regenerative receivers. \u00a0Bill\u00a0<a title=\"CRI echoes!\" href=\"http:\/\/soldersmoke.blogspot.com\/2014\/08\/strange-echo-on-china-radio.html\" target=\"_blank\">posted the following video<\/a>, of his regen receiver tuned to China Radio International:<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/kX1EYfFMt2I\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>After Bill\u00a0measured the echo delay at .133 seconds, he believes one possibility is that they\u00a0originate from a propagation opening much like Lyle recorded on a 10 meter band opening last year (<a title=\"Hearing the speed of light: DX double echo\" href=\"http:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/2013\/10\/hearing-the-speed-of-light-dx-double-echo\/\" target=\"_blank\">click here to listen to the audio and read the post<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>A few days later, Bill recorded a similar echo effect while tuned to Brother Stair (Overcomer Ministries) on a different regenerative receiver.\u00a0<a title=\"Overcomer Overwhelming!\" href=\"http:\/\/soldersmoke.blogspot.com\/2014\/09\/shortwave-echo-mystery-on-yet-another.html\" target=\"_blank\">Click here to read the post and view the video<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The fact that Bill measured a .133 second delay (the amount of time it would take for a signal to circle the globe), makes me believe he&#8217;s hearing an echo similar <a title=\"Hearing the speed of light: DX double echo\" href=\"http:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/2013\/10\/hearing-the-speed-of-light-dx-double-echo\/\" target=\"_blank\">to Lyle<\/a>.
