As I figured they looked suspiciously like an antenna array, I asked the site caretaker (it was University of Illinois Champaign-Urbana farm) what they were. He happily took me to see what was left of the original Wullenweber test site, built under contract for the US government for testing by Dr. Hayden. All that remained then was several utility poles, and some transmission line sticking out of the ground.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/SanDiego.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-11168\" src=\"http:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/SanDiego.jpg\" alt=\"SanDiego\" width=\"640\" height=\"232\" srcset=\"https:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/SanDiego.jpg 640w, https:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/SanDiego-300x108.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>I\u2019ve also seen the Navy\u2019s array at Imperial Beach, CA (near San Diego), down the highway from the SEAL base, and it\u2019s very impressive. It\u2019s clearly visible from the highway, and though I\u2019ve read it was supposed to come down years ago, its still standing. Makes me wonder if it\u2019s still in use.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/AK.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-11169\" src=\"http:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/AK.jpg\" alt=\"AK\" width=\"640\" height=\"231\" srcset=\"https:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/AK.jpg 640w, https:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/AK-300x108.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Another interesting site I\u2019ve seen is outside of Barrow, Alaska. Near remnants of the DEW Line is a joint USAF\/FAA radar station, with a single white domed antenna. I don\u2019t remember exactly, but pretty close to it is what looks to me like a \u201cmini\u201d Elephant Cage. From what I recall, it was a single ring of fairly short towers, surrounding a small central building.
