This morning,\u00a0I noticed that we’ve crossed a small milestone here at the SWLing Post<\/em>: as of this post, there are now\u00a02,000 published posts in our\u00a0archives.<\/p>\n

It’s a bit incredible\u00a0that it’s already been almost seven years<\/em> since I started this blog. In the beginning, I had no aspirations for the SWLing Post<\/em> to become a popular destination\u00a0for shortwave and amateur radio enthusiasts; it was mainly a site where\u00a0I could jot down things I found of interest to me and keep tabs on the radio and international broadcasting industry. \u00a0I was simply making my bookmarks and thoughts public, perhaps a little\u00a0in advance\u00a0of the social media outlets that now exist for shortwave radio and related topics.<\/p>\n

A couple of months after starting the SWLing Post<\/em>, I began\u00a0using Google Analytics to track readership. I was absolutely floored to discover that, after a year or two online, I had about 200 pageviews per day–meaning, our website guests were reading about 200 pages\/posts of information per day! It\u00a0seemed\u00a0surreal.<\/p>\n

Each year\u2013indeed, each month\u2013<\/em>that number grew. Now, it’s hard for me to believe the site has about 5,500 daily pageviews. \u00a0Per month? We’re up to\u00a0167,000. As of today, here’s what Google Analytics gives for\u00a0our monthly figures:<\/p>\n

The thing is, these numbers continue to grow.<\/p>\n

Best of all,\u00a0what does this say\u2013loud and clear!\u2013about these “dying” radio shortwaves, about this old and washed-up\u00a0medium of communication\u2013? \u00a0It says to us: \u00a0interest in this hobby is far from dead, but rather, is still alive and well…and perhaps even\u00a0growing.<\/p>\n

And the very best<\/em> part about hosting the SWLing Post?<\/em>\u00a0The community it’s created. \u00a0So:<\/p>\n

Thanks to everyone who makes this possible\u2013to all of those who create\u00a0guest posts, to those who comment, and to those who help other readers; thanks to those who participate in and moderate the chat room<\/a>. \u00a0Thanks to the readers who follow, to the SWLers who listen, to all those who care about radio. \u00a0Thanks to you all…for the camaraderie, the coffee, the chance\u00a0to enjoy the growing company of so many readers and fellow-listeners from all around the globe…I am now, and will remain, most humbly grateful.<\/em><\/p>\n

And to extend my thanks, I’m looking into hosting a forum here on the SWLing Post<\/em> which should allow for even more interaction within the community. \u00a0So, yet\u00a0again, allow me to say:\u00a0 Stay tuned!<\/em><\/p>\n
