{"id":15109,"date":"2015-10-13T08:01:04","date_gmt":"2015-10-13T12:01:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/?p=15109"},"modified":"2015-10-13T08:01:04","modified_gmt":"2015-10-13T12:01:04","slug":"the-aor-ar-mini-b-is-back-and-on-sale-at-universal-radio","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/2015\/10\/the-aor-ar-mini-b-is-back-and-on-sale-at-universal-radio\/","title":{"rendered":"The AOR AR-Mini B is back (and on sale at Universal Radio)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/AOR-AR-Mini-B1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-15155\" src=\"http:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/AOR-AR-Mini-B1.jpg\" alt=\"AOR-AR-Mini-B\" width=\"303\" height=\"412\" srcset=\"https:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/AOR-AR-Mini-B1.jpg 303w, https:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/AOR-AR-Mini-B1-221x300.jpg 221w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 303px) 100vw, 303px\" \/><\/a>While browsing the front page of <a href=\"http:\/\/universal-radio.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Universal Radio<\/a> recently, I noted that the\u00a0<strong>AOR AR-Mini B<\/strong> handheld communications receiver <a href=\"http:\/\/universal-radio.com\/catalog\/widerxvr\/0202.html\" target=\"_blank\">is currently on sale<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>This surprised for two reasons:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>I thought the AR-Mini B was discontinued.<\/li>\n<li>This receiver used to sell for about $259 US.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>I contacted Fred Osterman (President of Universal) for more details.<\/p>\n<p>Fred informed me that,\u00a0a couple of weeks ago, AOR USA announced the availability of the model once again.\u00a0He noted that the units arrived from AOR JAPAN to AOR USA last week\u00a0and they are now\u00a0in stock. \u00a0Fred seemed as surprised as I was that the Mini B resurfaced.<\/p>\n<p>He confirmed that AOR have these in quantity&#8211;they&#8217;re not simply units discovered in a warehouse corner somewhere. \u00a0They could be surplus from a large special order.<\/p>\n<p>The AOR AR-Mini B\u00a0is not a perfect receiver, but at $159.95 it&#8217;s a pretty good value for a very rugged, water-resistant receiver that\u00a0puts much of the\u00a0radio spectrum in your pocket (100 kHz to 1299.995 MHz).<\/p>\n<p>If you&#8217;re tempted to purchase the AOR AR-Mini B, check out <a href=\"http:\/\/monitoringtimes.com\/mtfirstlook-ARminiB.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">this review by Larry Van Horne (PDF)<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/webpages.charter.net\/n9ewo2\/armini.html\" target=\"_blank\">this review by Dave Zantow<\/a> first.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>While browsing the front page of Universal Radio recently, I noted that the\u00a0AOR AR-Mini B handheld communications receiver is currently on sale.
