Make time to listen."},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/Sony-ICF-SW100-Outside-Fall.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-15191\" src=\"http:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/Sony-ICF-SW100-Outside-Fall.jpg\" alt=\"Sony-ICF-SW100-Outside-Fall\" width=\"800\" height=\"450\" srcset=\"https:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/Sony-ICF-SW100-Outside-Fall.jpg 800w, https:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/Sony-ICF-SW100-Outside-Fall-300x169.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Though I&#8217;ve spent the entire day sawing and splitting firewood, I&#8217;ve been actively recording spectrum on the 31, 25, 19 and 16 meter bands with the <a href=\"http:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/2012\/10\/a-review-of-the-winradio-wr-g31ddc-excalibur-software-defined-radio-sdr\/\">WinRadio Excalibur<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/2014\/12\/a-review-of-the-elad-fdm-s2-software-defined-receiver\/\">Elad FDM-S2<\/a> and the <a href=\"http:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/2015\/07\/a-review-of-the-sdrplay-rsp-software-defined-receiver\/\">SDRplay RSP<\/a>. Why? Propagation&#8211;especially on the higher bands&#8211;has been the best it&#8217;s been in several weeks.<\/p>\n<p>As I discovered at the recent <a href=\"http:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/2015\/10\/a-quick-pari-dxpedition-update\/\">SWLing Post DXpedition<\/a>, my shack PC can handle making multiple spectrum recordings simultaneously as long as I limit each recording to the width of a broadcast band. (I&#8217;ve never tried pushing the limit very hard.) Someday in the future&#8211;perhaps when we&#8217;re having terrible propagation&#8211;I&#8217;ll play those spectrum recordings back and tune through them as if they were live.<\/p>\n<p>Radio time travel at its best.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-15192 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/Sony-ICF-SW100-Outside-2.jpg\" alt=\"Sony-ICF-SW100-Outside-2\" width=\"450\" height=\"800\" srcset=\"https:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/Sony-ICF-SW100-Outside-2.jpg 450w, https:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/Sony-ICF-SW100-Outside-2-169x300.jpg 169w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 450px) 100vw, 450px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>When I decided to throw in the towel with all of the firewood processing, I fired up <a href=\"http:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/2015\/08\/a-repair-story-vlados-fix-for-the-classic-sony-icf-sw100\/\">the Sony ICF-SW100<\/a>\u00a0(above) and tuned in a game on 17,855 kHz: <em>Radio Exterior de Espa\u00f1a<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>The REE signal was simply <em>booming<\/em> into eastern North America!<\/p>\n<p>Hard to break away from the radio on days like this.<\/p>\n<p>My advice? <strong><em>Take advantage of these conditions and make time to listen!<\/em> <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>For me, SWLing\u00a0a great excuse to relax and let me back heal after a long day of splitting wood. For some, perhaps it&#8217;s a good excuse to take the radio outdoors and away from urban interference. Whatever the excuse, don&#8217;t hesitate to fire up your radio!<\/p>\n<p>There are some interesting stations on the bands\u00a0this evening.
