While we use a variety of technologies in rural and remote communities, radio still plays a\u00a0central role since it&#8217;s such an accessible technology.<\/p>\n<p>In 2014 and 2015, for example, we distributed Sony AM\/FM radios that gave children in Sierra Leone the opportunity to listen to over-the-air classes\u00a0while their school system was shut down due to Ebola.<\/p>\n<p>Powered by this success, we&#8217;re now in the process of putting together radio projects for rural, off-the-grid communities in Haiti, Cameroon, and Kenya, where children and their families\u00a0need the\u00a0education and information radio can provide.<\/p>\n<p>If you would like to help, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.earstoourworld.org\/donate\/\" target=\"_blank\">please consider a donation of any amount<\/a>. \u00a0This is unquestionably a meaningful\u00a0way to give the gift of radio, <em>as well as<\/em> education.<\/p>\n<h2>Amateur Radio<\/h2>\n<p>The Phoenix Amateur Radio Club will celebrate World Radio Day on the 13th and 14th of February with on-air\u00a0shortwave\u00a0activities, as a key part of the club&#8217;s ongoing British Scientists Commemorations. \u00a0This sounds like an enjoyable way to honor the day as well as the contributions of British scientists.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.diamundialradio.org\/event\/world-radio-day-on-amateur-radio\" target=\"_blank\">Click here for more info.<\/a><\/p>\n<h2>Radio Romania International<a href=\"http:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/RRI-RadioRomaniaInternational.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-5401\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-5401\" src=\"http:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/RRI-RadioRomaniaInternational-300x127.jpg\" alt=\"RRI-RadioRomaniaInternational\" width=\"300\" height=\"127\" srcset=\"https:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/RRI-RadioRomaniaInternational-300x127.jpg 300w, https:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/RRI-RadioRomaniaInternational-100x42.jpg 100w, https:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/RRI-RadioRomaniaInternational.jpg 529w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/h2>\n<p>Radio Romania issues the following fun invitation:<\/p>\n<p><em>On World Radio Day 2016, we invite you, dear friends, to send us short recorded messages on this [year&#8217;s] topic, by e-mail, as audio-attachments, at engl@rri.ro. This can be useful when the Internet is not available for any reason.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>VOA Radiogram, an experimental Voice of America radio gram, transmits text and images via a 50-year-old shortwave transmitter located in North Carolina. VOA Radiogram during the weekend on 13-14 February will include a mention of World Radio Day. Receive VOA Radiogram on any shortwave radio, patch the audio into a PC or Android device using software such as Fldigi from <a href=\"http:\/\/w1hkj.com\" target=\"_blank\">w1hkj.com<\/a>.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>VOA Radiogram transmission schedule<\/strong><br \/>\n(all days and times UTC):<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Sat 0930-1000 5865 kHz<\/li>\n<li>Sat 1600-1630 17580 kHz<\/li>\n<li>Sun 0230-0300 5745 kHz<\/li>\n<li>Sun 1930-2000 15670 kHz<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>All via the Edward R.
