{"id":17322,"date":"2016-02-10T11:19:08","date_gmt":"2016-02-10T15:19:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/?p=17322"},"modified":"2016-02-10T11:19:08","modified_gmt":"2016-02-10T15:19:08","slug":"world-radio-day","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/2016\/02\/world-radio-day\/","title":{"rendered":"World Radio Day"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/WRD.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-17323\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-17323\" src=\"http:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/WRD.jpg\" alt=\"WRD\" width=\"734\" height=\"350\" srcset=\"https:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/WRD.jpg 734w, https:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/WRD-300x143.jpg 300w, https:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/WRD-500x238.jpg 500w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 734px) 100vw, 734px\" \/><\/a>This was posted on the European broadcasting Union page:<\/p>\n<p><strong>To mark World Radio Day (13 February), the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) is organizing a &#8216;Musical Caravan&#8217; from east to west in partnership with other broadcasting unions across the globe.<\/strong><\/p>\n<div id=\"stcpDiv\">\n<p>Listeners will be taken around the world in a little over two hours.<\/p>\n<p>This special compilation submitted by EBU Members, Associates and its sister unions (ABU, ASBU and CBU*) and coordinated by the EBU Music Unit in Geneva consists of songs representing the musical heritage of 34 countries.<\/p>\n<p>The broad list of contributions include a Richard Strauss lied recorded by Bavarian Radio, an Indonesian song for peace and friendship, a folk tune from India and carnival music from the Caribbean.<\/p>\n<p>The EBU will also share key facts about radio listening compiled by the organization\u2019s Media Intelligence Unit in the week leading up to World Radio Day 2016 on its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/EBU.HQ\/\">Facebook<\/a> page and <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ebu_hq\">Twitter<\/a> account.<\/p>\n<p>Another highlight of the EBU\u2019s contribution to World Radio Day 2016 will be a special performance of Beethoven\u2019s <em>Ninth Symphony<\/em> by the NHK Symphony Orchestra of Tokyo and the Kunitachi College of Music Chorus. An interview with conductor Paavo J\u00e4rvi can be found <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nhkso.or.jp\/en\/library\/videolibrary\/index.php?v_id=56\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>EBU Head of Radio Graham Dixon said: \u201cRadio plays a very significant part in all our lives. On average, we will listen to nine years of radio in a lifetime \u2013 more than any activity except breathing and sleeping!\u00a0 Radio provides a convenient way to encounter new ideas, new music and new ways of thinking, and also provides valuable company to counter isolation and loss.\u00a0 Nine years of an average lifetime is indeed an impressive figure, but the real personal impact of radio cannot be quantified.
