\"DSC_4513\"<\/a>Maybe it’s my\u00a0radio-loving fascination with technology, travel, and what at times seems like sheer magic\u2013-but\u00a0for some reason I’ve long\u00a0been something\u00a0of an aviation enthusiast, as well. Over the years, I’ve discovered quite a lot of SWLs and ham radio operators share this interest…and if you’re one of these folks, well, have I got a post\u00a0for you.<\/p>\n

\"Aerien-Quebec\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Wednesday in Qu\u00e9bec City, as the sun dipped in the sky, viewers standing on the city’s walled fortifications\u00a0were treated to an amazing aviation display which included a\u00a0CF-18 Hornet<\/a>, the\u00a0CH-146 Griffon<\/a>\u00a0and last but definitely not least, the Canadian Forces 431 Air Demonstration Squadron\u2013\u2013aka,\u00a0the Snowbirds<\/a>.<\/p>\n

In the first act,\u00a0helicopters: \u00a0four\u00a0CH-146 Griffon<\/a>\u00a0helicopters in neat formation, and then the\u00a0Canadian Coast Guard demonstrated lowering a guy from a emergency\u00a0helicopter\u00a0onto a Coast Guard boat in the middle of the St. Lawrence, , then drawing\u00a0him back up into the chopper\u00a0a few minutes later\u2013\u2013with, of course, maneuvers throughout.<\/p>\n

For the second act,\u00a0the\u00a0CF-18 Hornet<\/a>\u00a0pounded the sky with an assault of black-and-yellow speed, twice turning and showing both back and belly.<\/p>\n

And for the finale,\u00a0the Snowbirds<\/a> skimmed into view in exquisite formation, and with tight,\u00a0astonishing\u00a0precision, glided around the ramparts of the\u00a0old walled city,\u00a0leaving perfectly drawn\u00a0contrails\u00a0of colored smoke.<\/p>\n

The Snowbirds<\/h1>\n

This particular public event wasn’t\u00a0granted permission for a full<\/em> acrobatic show, but the Snowbirds were in the air at least thirty minutes and showed off\u00a0every one of their nine-plane position formations. \u00a0And were they ever precise!<\/p>\n
