\"Sangean-DT-160\"<\/a>Many thanks to SWLing Post<\/em> contributor, Ron, who shares his impressions of the new Sangean DT-160:<\/p>\n

The DT-160 just came in and here are a few impressions:<\/p>\n

1.) The heft and feel of this set is superb…it has that solid\u00a0feel the earlier DT-200X doesn’t.\u00a0It is markedly smaller,too and the buttons have\u00a0a firm solid\u00a0feel the earlier models lack (finally!).<\/p>\n

2.)\u00a0Jay’s review<\/a> is spot-on as usual…but the AM section is\u00a0not what you find in a Sony SRF-59 or SRF-37W digital.\u00a0Expect to get locals and semi-locals fine but it’s not going\u00a0to be a DX machine on AM as the Sony’s are.<\/p>\n

This is doubtless due to the need for a smaller ferrite bar;\u00a0a Q-Stick<\/a> or loop will fix that.<\/p>\n

3.) On the other hand as Jay said it leaves the Sonys in the\u00a0dust on FM, which is superb.<\/p>\n

4.) Audio is very good as is ease of operation.<\/p>\n

5.) The closest comparison is probably the CC Pocket<\/a>; they\u00a0doubtless use the same\/similar Silicon Labs IC.<\/p>\n

But unlike the CC no birdies were heard on AM<\/del>. [Update: Ron has since discovered\u00a0a few birdies on AM, like the CC Pocket.]<\/p>\n

Is it worthwhile?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Yes, if only for the promised 100 hour battery life.\u00a0No other similar receiver will run nearly as long.<\/p>\n

I will definitely buy the DT-160 for my father. I wonder if it’s packaged in a way that I could take it out, play with it, then re-package it as a gift? \ud83d\ude42 Would that be wrong?\u00a0Of course not! \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n
