An Arvin transistor was my very first radio, and here she is:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/igejbhjg.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-20995\" src=\"http:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/igejbhjg.jpg\" alt=\"Arvin Transistor Radio\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" srcset=\"https:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/igejbhjg.jpg 640w, https:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/igejbhjg-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/igejbhjg-624x468.jpg 624w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This is the <strong>Arvin Model 61R35<\/strong> in Ice Blue (it also came in black). My parents bought it for me in roughly 1962 or 63. It was the first radio that was mine (though we did have an older Crosley tabletop in the living room of our house in Midland, Michigan that we all used). Mine had seven Germanium (!) transistors (as silicon transistors were not yet in wide production in the early 60s).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/ccgdjgad.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-20996\" src=\"http:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/ccgdjgad.jpg\" alt=\"Arvin Model 61R35\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" srcset=\"https:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/ccgdjgad.jpg 640w, https:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/ccgdjgad-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/ccgdjgad-624x468.jpg 624w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>And Made in America! Unfortunately, I think this is what killed the radio and required my folks to mail it off to the big city (Flint, Michigan) to have it repaired.
