Of course, I eagerly agreed, and we quickly came up with a theme:<\/p>\n<h2>Think back to your first days in radio&#8230;What was\u00a0<em>your<\/em>\u00a0&#8220;dream&#8221; receiver? \u00a0And why?<\/h2>\n<p>Or&#8211;if you&#8217;re new to shortwave radio&#8211;what is your &#8220;dream&#8221; receiver currently, and why?<\/p>\n<p>Many of us had\u00a0a radio they dreamed of in their youth, or when they first began to hanker after the radio experience. <strong><em>What was yours? <\/em><\/strong>\u00a0For newer hobbyists,<strong> <em>what is yours? And just what made&#8211;or makes&#8211;this radio so special? <\/em><\/strong>Did you ever obtain one? \u00a0And if so,\u00a0did it live up to your expectations? \u00a0Share your experiences with the <em>Post!<\/em><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-11500\" src=\"http:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/ShortwaveReceiversPastAndPresent.jpg\" alt=\"ShortwaveReceiversPastAndPresent\" width=\"640\" height=\"451\" srcset=\"https:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/ShortwaveReceiversPastAndPresent.jpg 640w, https:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/ShortwaveReceiversPastAndPresent-300x211.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/>The winners of this contest will be chosen\u00a0at random, using a randomizer application;\u00a0an independent non-entrant will make these selections.<\/p>\n<p>Thanks to Universal&#8217;s generosity, there will be <em>two<\/em> winners&#8211;a\u00a0US winner\u00a0<em>and<\/em> an\u00a0international winner.<\/p>\n<p>The US prize will be a copy of <em><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.universal-radio.com\/catalog\/books\/0004.html\" target=\"_blank\">Shortwave Receivers Past and Present<\/a> <\/strong><\/em>by none other than Fred Osterman. I reviewed this book a couple years\u00a0ago: it is <a href=\"http:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/2014\/12\/shortwave-receivers-past-present-a-book-for-every-radio-enthusiast\/\">an invaluable reference tool<\/a> and also a fun &#8220;dream&#8221; book. \u00a0With sincere apologies to\u00a0my international friends, this prize must be limited to the US simply because shipping this weighty\u00a0volume internationally would cost more than the book itself.<\/p>\n<p>The international winner may select between\u00a0the following (less weighty!)\u00a0books, also very good references:\u00a0<em><strong>Joe Carr&#8217;s Loop Antenna Book<\/strong><\/em> or\u00a0<em><strong>Buying A Used Shortwave Receiver:\u00a0<\/strong><\/em><em><strong>A Market Guide To Modern Shortwave Radios.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Entering the contest is easy.<\/strong> Simply go to our entry form (below <a href=\"https:\/\/goo.gl\/forms\/AigCmbIfespszZJF2\" target=\"_blank\">or click here<\/a>) and fill in the required fields. \u00a0Be descriptive!
