Fred Osterman, President of Universal Radio<\/a>, recently\u00a0expressed his interest in supporting another SWLing\u00a0Post<\/em> Reader Contest. Of course, I eagerly agreed, and we quickly came up with a theme:<\/p>\n

Think back to your first days in radio…What was\u00a0your<\/em>\u00a0“dream” receiver? \u00a0And why?<\/h2>\n

Or–if you’re new to shortwave radio–what is your “dream” receiver currently, and why?<\/p>\n

Many of us had\u00a0a radio they dreamed of in their youth, or when they first began to hanker after the radio experience. What was yours? <\/em><\/strong>\u00a0For newer hobbyists, what is yours? And just what made–or makes–this radio so special? <\/em><\/strong>Did you ever obtain one? \u00a0And if so,\u00a0did it live up to your expectations? \u00a0Share your experiences with the Post!<\/em><\/p>\n

\"ShortwaveReceiversPastAndPresent\"The winners of this contest will be chosen\u00a0at random, using a randomizer application;\u00a0an independent non-entrant will make these selections.<\/p>\n

Thanks to Universal’s generosity, there will be two<\/em> winners–a\u00a0US winner\u00a0and<\/em> an\u00a0international winner.<\/p>\n

The US prize will be a copy of Shortwave Receivers Past and Present<\/a> <\/strong><\/em>by none other than Fred Osterman. I reviewed this book a couple years\u00a0ago: it is an invaluable reference tool<\/a> and also a fun “dream” book. \u00a0With sincere apologies to\u00a0my international friends, this prize must be limited to the US simply because shipping this weighty\u00a0volume internationally would cost more than the book itself.<\/p>\n

The international winner may select between\u00a0the following (less weighty!)\u00a0books, also very good references:\u00a0Joe Carr’s Loop Antenna Book<\/strong><\/em> or\u00a0Buying A Used Shortwave Receiver:\u00a0<\/strong><\/em>A Market Guide To Modern Shortwave Radios.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n
