Many thanks to SWLing Post<\/em> reader, Paul, who writes:<\/p>\n

While putzing around with my new Tecsun PL-880 that I got while browsing at Universal Radio\u2019s store in Columbus OH, I found what appears to be an adjustable noise reduction function.<\/p>\n

Firmware level: 8820
\nMfg date: probably August 2016 (201608 from the serial number inside the tilt stand)<\/p>\n

Here are the steps to check it out;<\/p>\n

When in a shortwave\u00a0band, press \u201c4\u201d until either \u201cON\u201d or \u201cOFF\u201d appears in the display.
\nIf it displays \u201cOFF\u201d, press 4 briefly to clear, then long press again until \u201cON\u201d appears.<\/p>\n

Then, long press \u201c9\u201d until a two digit number appears.<\/p>\n

Use either tuning knob to increase or decrease the number.<\/p>\n

The number appears to correspond with the DbM threshold of the received signal.<\/p>\n

Perhaps someone can play with the feature and elaborate on its function.<\/p>\n
