It is also recognized as a powerful communication tool and a low cost medium.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>In honor of World Radio Day, at <a href=\"http:\/\/etow.org\" target=\"_blank\">Ears To Our World<\/a>, we sent <a href=\"http:\/\/humanalight.org\" target=\"_blank\">60 HumanaLights<\/a> and 40 self-powered AM\/FM\/SW radios to be distributed in Haiti through our partners, the Haitian Health Foundation.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/Grundig-FR200-Haiti.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-24130\" src=\"http:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/Grundig-FR200-Haiti.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"316\" srcset=\"https:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/Grundig-FR200-Haiti.jpg 640w, https:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/Grundig-FR200-Haiti-300x148.jpg 300w, https:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/Grundig-FR200-Haiti-624x308.jpg 624w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>We&#8217;ve been working steadily in Haiti since 2009, shortly before the 2010 earthquake.\u00a0You may know that Haiti has most recently been dealing with <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Effects_of_Hurricane_Matthew_in_Haiti\" target=\"_blank\">the effects of Hurricane Matthew<\/a> which struck on October 4, 2016. Shortly after urgent food and medical supplies started making their way to the island, we began sending radios and other supplies.<\/p>\n<p>The importance of radio access in disaster situations cannot be overstated, and the results getting receivers into the hands of those in need are both immediate and enduring. According to the Knight Foundation, a non-profit organization that advances journalism in the digital age, radio was \u201cthe undisputed lifeline for the Haitian public after the [2010] earthquake.\u201d In their report, \u201cMedia, Information System and Communities: Lessons from HAITI,\u201d the Foundation asserted, \u201cOf all the available humanitarian information tools, radio was the most effective means to share information with the community and to distribute information to affected populations.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This remains true today as Haiti rebuilds after Hurricane Matthew.<\/p>\n<p><em>If you would like to help those who ETOW serves, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.earstoourworld.org\/donate\/\" target=\"_blank\">please consider a donation of any amount<\/a>.
