I found an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rsgbiota.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Islands On The Air (IOTA)<\/a> activation with a decent pileup on 14,250 kHz.<\/p>\n<p>I shot this short video with my smart phone:<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"embed-youtube\" style=\"text-align:center; display: block;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"youtube-player\" width=\"625\" height=\"352\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/_BbJelnqXTc?version=3&#038;rel=1&#038;showsearch=0&#038;showinfo=1&#038;iv_load_policy=1&#038;fs=1&#038;hl=en-US&#038;autohide=2&#038;wmode=transparent\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" style=\"border:0;\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts allow-same-origin allow-popups allow-presentation allow-popups-to-escape-sandbox\"><\/iframe><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/_BbJelnqXTc\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Click here to view on YouTube.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Overall, I&#8217;m very pleased with the AR-1780 on SSB. The noise floor is pretty low, the filter selections are handy and the overall audio is comparable to slightly larger portable radios.<\/p>\n<p>The dedicated fine tune control is quite handy, even though it&#8217;s oddly located on the right side of the radio (where one typically finds a volume control).<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m putting together a short review of the AR-1780, but will need more air and comp time before I form any firm opinions.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/Digitech-AR-1780-and-Pilot-Run-CC-Skywave-SSB.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-27745\" src=\"https:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/Digitech-AR-1780-and-Pilot-Run-CC-Skywave-SSB.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"378\" srcset=\"https:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/Digitech-AR-1780-and-Pilot-Run-CC-Skywave-SSB.jpg 800w, https:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/Digitech-AR-1780-and-Pilot-Run-CC-Skywave-SSB-300x142.jpg 300w, https:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/Digitech-AR-1780-and-Pilot-Run-CC-Skywave-SSB-768x363.jpg 768w, https:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/Digitech-AR-1780-and-Pilot-Run-CC-Skywave-SSB-624x295.jpg 624w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/a>For readers that have made it this far down the post, you might recognize a yet-to-be-released portable next to the AR-1780. Of course, I&#8217;m comparing it with the AR-1780 and its predecessor, but it&#8217;s not a production run unit (yet!), so I can&#8217;t comment on performance.
