{"id":28907,"date":"2017-10-31T07:43:31","date_gmt":"2017-10-31T11:43:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/?p=28907"},"modified":"2017-10-31T07:48:05","modified_gmt":"2017-10-31T11:48:05","slug":"shortwave-archives-spectrum-archives-and-the-radio-preservation-task-force-meeting","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/2017\/10\/shortwave-archives-spectrum-archives-and-the-radio-preservation-task-force-meeting\/","title":{"rendered":"Shortwave Archives, Spectrum Archives and the Radio Preservation Task Force meeting"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-28996\" src=\"https:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Library-of-Congress-maps-jefferson.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"474\" height=\"330\" srcset=\"https:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Library-of-Congress-maps-jefferson.jpg 474w, https:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Library-of-Congress-maps-jefferson-300x209.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 474px) 100vw, 474px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This week, I&#8217;m looking forward to participating in the three day Radio Preservation Task Force meeting in Washington, DC.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-17567\" src=\"https:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/Shepperd-RPTF-LOC-2-1024x226.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"625\" height=\"138\" \/>The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/radiopreservation.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Radio Preservation Task Force (RPTF)<\/a>, a project of the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.loc.gov\/programs\/national-recording-preservation-plan\/about-this-program\/radio-preservation-task-force\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">National Recording Preservation Board of the Library of Congress<\/a>, will be held on November 2nd, 3rd, and 4th, 2017 at the Library of Congress, Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars, and the University of Maryland.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve been invited to serve on the\u00a0RPTF Material &amp; Digital Curation panel where I&#8217;ll have an opportunity to talk about our work with the <a href=\"http:\/\/shortwavearchive.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Shortwave Radio Audio Archive<\/a> and a new project I&#8217;ve been working on: the <a href=\"http:\/\/spectrumarchive.org\">Radio Spectrum Archive<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2>The Radio Spectrum Archive<\/h2>\n<p>For several years, I&#8217;ve been championing the concept of archiving radio spectrum recordings.<\/p>\n<p>As many of you know,\u00a0through the use of software defined radios (SDRs), we can record not just one individual broadcast from one radio station at a time, but we can record an entire broadcast band, all at once. Each recording can easily contain dozens of stations broadcasting simultaneously. Later, via an SDR app, recordings can be tuned and listened to as if they were live.
