Derrick writes:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>I phoned Eton Canada&#8217;s customer support number and reached a friendly lady who immediately responded with a solution as soon as I mentioned &#8220;sticky rubber&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>She stated that Eton officially recommends a product called &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/2NxdHnT\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Purple Power Industrial Strength Cleaner\/Degreaser&#8221;<\/a> because it is water-based, non-toxic, biodegradable, non-abrasive, and contains no solvents.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_7614\" style=\"width: 486px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/Eton-E1-Purple-Power-2013-10-16.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-7614\" class=\"wp-image-7614 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/Eton-E1-Purple-Power-2013-10-16.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"476\" height=\"635\" srcset=\"https:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/Eton-E1-Purple-Power-2013-10-16.jpg 476w, https:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/Eton-E1-Purple-Power-2013-10-16-224x300.jpg 224w, https:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/Eton-E1-Purple-Power-2013-10-16-74x100.jpg 74w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 476px) 100vw, 476px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-7614\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">This reader used Purple Power to clean his benchmark Eton E1.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>It&#8217;s made by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.clean-rite.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Aiken Chemical<\/a>\u00a0and can be found at auto supply shops (e.g. Autozone, NAPA, etc.), home improvement stores, and a few major retailers (such as Walmart).<\/p>\n<p>The method involves dampening a cloth or microfibre towel with the cleaner, then wiping the radio in a single direction with gentle pressure.\u00a0 Don&#8217;t rub back and forth or swirl in circles.\u00a0 It won&#8217;t remove logos, lettering, or numbers.<\/p>\n<p>The agent stated that only one cleaning is necessary.\u00a0 The rubber coating will remain non-tacky, permanently, after using Purple Power.<\/p>\n<p>Having said all that, I haven&#8217;t personally tested it.\u00a0 You&#8217;ll might recall that I had already cleaned my radios with oven cleaner.<\/p>\n<p>Also, Purple Power is hard to find in Canada.\u00a0 I do have other degreasers in my workshop; some of them are even purple-coloured (e.g. Zep Commercial Purple Cleaner and Castrol SuperClean), but they&#8217;re highly corrosive and toxic, so I&#8217;m not keen on trying those on my<br \/>\nradios.<\/p>\n<p>Therefore, if one of your other readers already has a jug of Purple Power handy, maybe they can test it out and report back to us.<\/p>\n<p>Thanks again for the great website!<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Thank you so much, Derrick, for taking the time to share this. Sticky radios are so common, <a href=\"https:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/tag\/sticky-radios\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">we have a number of posts in the archive on the topic<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>My Grundig G6 desperately needs cleaning&#8211;its chassis is incredibly sticky at the moment.
