A few weeks ago Kelly was digging around his father&#8217;s old office.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;My dad, he held onto everything \u2014 it drove my mom crazy,&#8221; Kelly says. &#8220;And actually in the corner, I saw a box that was sort of halfway open. And I kinda kicked at it a little bit \u2014 just to make sure there were no snakes around, \u2018cause we have a lot of black snakes up here. But anyway \u2014 it was heavy. And I opened up the lid. There were some records in there. And I looked at the label and I couldn&#8217;t believe it. It said: &#8216;Mount Airy vs. Laurinburg. Football. Nov. 25, 1948.&#8217; &#8221;<\/p>\n<p>It was the state championship game, held on Thanksgiving Day.<\/p>\n<p>Kelly didn\u2019t have the equipment at WPAQ to play the records \u2014 they\u2019re old lacquer discs \u2014 but he took them to a woman who did.<\/p>\n<p>[&#8230;]The 2018 Mount Airy Bears had a bye week coming up. There was a Friday night open on WPAQ\u2019s calendar.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-reactid=\"347\">So on Sept. 28 at 7:30, when residents of Mount Airy, North Carolina, turned to 740 on their AM dials, they heard this.<\/p>\n<p class=\"indent-medium\" style=\"padding-left: 30px;\" data-reactid=\"349\">&#8220;N.W. Quick \u2014 co-captain and right tackle of the Laurinburg Scots from Scotland County \u2014 the Fighting Scots they\u2019re called \u2014 will be kicking off for Laurinburg on the 40-yard line.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-reactid=\"360\">Kelly and Brack say they started hearing from listeners right away.<\/p>\n<p class=\"indent-medium\" data-reactid=\"361\">&#8220;We went about as viral as you can in this area with our broadcast,&#8221; Brack laughs.<\/p>\n<p class=\"indent-medium\" data-reactid=\"362\">&#8220;And I\u2019m trying to concentrate \u2014 I was running the board\u00a0\u2014 and I was getting all these messages,&#8221;\u00a0Kelly says. &#8220;They were blowing up my phone. I couldn&#8217;t handle it.\u00a0Saying, \u2018This is unbelievable! I\u2019m hearing my dad play. I never thought I could ever do this. My dad is playing a football game.\u2019 &#8220;<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-reactid=\"363\">Brack says he heard from one friend who grew up in Laurinburg and recognized the name of a player on the Scots roster.<\/p>\n<p class=\"indent-medium\" data-reactid=\"364\">&#8220;And the player whose name he heard grew up to be the doctor who delivered him,&#8221; Brack says.<\/p>\n<p data-reactid=\"364\">[&#8230;]I\u2019d tell you how the game ends, but I don\u2019t want to spoil it \u2014 because you\u2019re going to get another chance to listen.
