They contacted me around the Thanksgiving holiday and inquired about evaluating this new portable receiver. I replied, asking a few questions about the unit&#8211;you see, I don&#8217;t typically agree to take a look at a new product if I think it could simply be a re-badged version of something currently on the market.<\/p>\n<p>Their reply was simple:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;Yes, it is shortwave radio, like PL-310ET radio but add air band, and better reception performance. Your tracking number is&#8230;&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>So evidently, it was already on the way.<\/p>\n<p>Radiwow claims the performance is better than that of the venerable <strong>Tecsun PL-310ET<\/strong>. This, I will have to test because the PL-310ET is certainly a <em>workhorse<\/em> Ultralight radio. And the R-108 includes air band? Sounds like a CC Skywave without weather radio. That could be quite appealing if the price is competitive.<\/p>\n<p>And it seems this little radio fits neatly into the requirements of Ultralight DXing, thus I hope Gary DeBock and Guy Atkins might take a look as well.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, the R-108 includes longwave frequencies. Something I know will please a number of our readers.<\/p>\n<p>Here are some of the key points I gleamed from a digital copy of the owner&#8217;s manual:<\/p>\n<h2>Radiwow R108 Features:<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Frequency range:\n<ul>\n<li>Longwave: 150-450 kHz)<\/li>\n<li>Mediumwave\/AM: 520-1710 kHz w\/10 kHz steps, 522-1620 kHz w\/9kHz steps<\/li>\n<li>Shortwave: 1711-29,999 kHz<\/li>\n<li>FM: 87.5-108 and 64-108 MHz<\/li>\n<li>AIR: 118-137 MHz<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>ATS memory scans on all bands<\/li>\n<li>500 available preset memories<\/li>\n<li>Squelch control<\/li>\n<li>Direct keypad entry of frequencies<\/li>\n<li>Clock function with sleep timer, snooze and alarm (buzzer or radio)<\/li>\n<li>Keylock<\/li>\n<li>FM stereo<\/li>\n<li>AM bandwidths: 6, 4, 3, 2, and 1 kHz selections<\/li>\n<li>Music\/Voice audio modes<\/li>\n<li>Built-in intelligent charger for included 3.7V 1500 mAh Li-ion battery pack<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/Radiwow-R-108-Specs.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-35305\" src=\"https:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/Radiwow-R-108-Specs.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"357\" height=\"500\" srcset=\"https:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/Radiwow-R-108-Specs.jpg 357w, https:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/Radiwow-R-108-Specs-214x300.jpg 214w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 357px) 100vw, 357px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>By the way, I suspect Radiwow is linked to XHDATA because 1.) they knew my shipping address without asking and 2.) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.radiwow.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">their website prominently features the XHDATA D-808<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, the only other place I could find the R-108 listed on the Internet is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aliexpress.com\/item\/RADIWOW-R-108-Radio-Digital-Portable-Radio-FM-Stereo-LW-SW-MW-AIR-DSP-Receiver-with\/32964227585.html?spm=2114.search0104.3.2.5b98d878mKhY6g&amp;ws_ab_test=searchweb0_0,searchweb201602_3_10065_10068_10130_10890_10547_319_10546_317_10548_10545_10696_453_10084_454_10083_10618_10307_538_537_536_10059_10884_10887_100031_321_322_10103,searchweb201603_51,ppcSwitch_0&amp;algo_expid=9700a24c-30d1-4e64-b5b8-20f12935b586-0&amp;algo_pvid=9700a24c-30d1-4e64-b5b8-20f12935b586\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">via AliExpress<\/a>. As with the introduction of the XHDATA D-808, the AliExress price is (today) absurdly high.
