Its magnetic polarity tells us so. Southern sunspots from old Solar Cycle 24 have a -\/+ polarity. This sunspot is the opposite: +\/-. According to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www2.hao.ucar.edu\/Education\/Sun\/hales-sunspot-polarity-law\">Hale\u2019s Law<\/a>, sunspots switch polarities from one solar cycle to the next.
