Troy notes:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>I&#8217;ve lauded <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/B00B4JJTIA\/ref=as_li_qf_asin_il_tl?ie=UTF8&amp;tag=swlcom01-20&amp;creative=9325&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;creativeASIN=B00B4JJTIA&amp;linkId=0d452ef3a89ebd22212a89a34f8f4010\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Tenergy rechargeable<\/a> NiMH batteries and I wanted to share something with you.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_41828\" style=\"width: 295px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/mightybrightbig__56163.1293706698.1280.1280.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-41828\" class=\"wp-image-41828 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/mightybrightbig__56163.1293706698.1280.1280-285x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"285\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/mightybrightbig__56163.1293706698.1280.1280-285x300.jpg 285w, https:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/mightybrightbig__56163.1293706698.1280.1280.jpg 350w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 285px) 100vw, 285px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-41828\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Mighty Bright Navigation Light<\/p><\/div>\n<p>I have a box of Mighty Bright combination Red &amp; White LEDs that I use for astronomy (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.skysupplyusa.com\/products\/Mighty-Bright-Navigation-Light.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">they&#8217;re a clip-on light used by pilots<\/a> and also marketed for use in the automobile &#8211; they hold three AAAs).<\/p>\n<p>Approx. 18-months ago I put fully charged Rayovac, Energizer, Eneloop &amp; Tenergy Centura Low Self-Discharge batteries in them.<\/p>\n<p>Last night I pulled them out.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Rayovac:<\/strong> 0% charge.<br \/>\n<strong>Energizer:<\/strong> 0% charge<br \/>\n<strong>Tenergy Centura LSD &amp; Eneloop:<\/strong> both averaged ~ 70% of a charge &#8230; (6 batteries in two lights) &#8230; though some of the Eneloops had a slightly higher charge (maybe 2 &#8211; 5% higher), most of the batteries were virtually indistinguishable.<\/p>\n<p>You can buy 8 Tenergy for $9.99 while 8 Eneloop cost $17.99.<\/p>\n<p>If cost were not an issue I&#8217;d still go with Eneloop (a longer track record), but the Tenergy is a worthy &#8211; no, <strong>very worthy<\/strong> &#8211; value vs. performance choice.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<div id=\"attachment_11056\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/eneloopbatts.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-11056\" class=\"wp-image-11056 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/eneloopbatts-300x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/eneloopbatts-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/eneloopbatts-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/eneloopbatts.jpg 1000w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-11056\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Panasonic Eneloop batteries<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Thanks for sharing your real-world feedback, Troy.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m a big believer in low self-discharge rechargeable batteries. Indeed, I&#8217;ve almost replaced all of our &#8220;legacy&#8221; (meaning <em>not<\/em> low self-discarge) NiMH AA and AAA batteries with Eneloop cells.<\/p>\n<p>Eneloops are pretty pricey, though, and the costs add up if you have a lot of devices that require batteries. As you might imagine, portable radios demand a steady supply of AA batteries at <em>SWLing Post<\/em> HQ.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve been very pleased with my Eneloop batteries and, frankly, haven&#8217;t switched brands because of the terrible luck I&#8217;ve had with &#8220;legacy&#8221; rechargeables in the past.
