He notes that the reception &#8220;<em>was weak but readable<\/em>&#8221; from his home:<\/p>\n<audio class=\"wp-audio-shortcode\" id=\"audio-48045-1\" preload=\"none\" style=\"width: 100%;\" controls=\"controls\"><source type=\"audio\/mpeg\" src=\"https:\/\/www.mattblaze.org\/private\/DC1650AM-20210310.mp3?_=1\" \/><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mattblaze.org\/private\/DC1650AM-20210310.mp3\">https:\/\/www.mattblaze.org\/private\/DC1650AM-20210310.mp3<\/a><\/audio>\n<p>What&#8217;s more, Matt&#8217;s tweet was picked up by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thedrive.com\/tech\/39549\/the-strange-story-of-dcs-lost-am-radio-station-still-transmitting-inauguration-road-closures-from-2013\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Drive<\/a> and turned into a post, thus exposing our radio geekery to the populos at large. Many thanks to the numerous <em>SWLing Post<\/em> readers who shared a link to the article.<\/p>\n<p>I have to assume someone from the DDOT was paying attention too because Matt posted that as of March 3rd, it appears the transmitter has been taken off the air:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Matt-twitter-end.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-48052\" src=\"https:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Matt-twitter-end.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"589\" height=\"115\" srcset=\"https:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Matt-twitter-end.jpg 589w, https:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Matt-twitter-end-300x59.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 589px) 100vw, 589px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This reminded me of another transmitter stuck in time that I thought <a href=\"https:\/\/map.pirateradiomap.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">David Goren<\/a> once mentioned. I checked with him and he confirmed:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Yes, there\u2019s a transmitter somewhere on MW in NYC that has been broadcasting: \u201cthis is a functional test of the text-to-speech capability of the [VR or BR 2000] software package&#8221;.
