You see, though I prefer listening to shortwave radio, and though there are <a href=\"http:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/tag\/voice-of-greece\" target=\"_blank\">notable exceptions<\/a>,\u00a0it&#8217;s not always the best source to pipe music through the hi-fi system in our house.<\/p>\n<p>At one point, I actually subscribed to XM satellite radio. I eventually dropped it, and found there were only two things I really missed from XM: <a title=\"Tom Petty's show\" href=\"http:\/\/www.siriusxm.com\/tompetty\" target=\"_blank\">Tom Petty&#8217;s Buried Treasure<\/a>,\u00a0and the <a title=\"40's on 4\" href=\"http:\/\/www.siriusxm.com\/40son4\" target=\"_blank\">40s on 4<\/a> station, which played music from the 1920&#8217;s, 30&#8217;s and 40&#8217;s.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Introducing The UK 1940s Radio Station<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Fortunately, there is an excellent radio station&#8211;indeed, better than XM\/Sirius&#8217;<em> 40s on 4<\/em>&#8211;that fills my need for nostalgic radio, \u00a0<a title=\"The UK 1940's Radio Station\" href=\"http:\/\/www.1940sukradio.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\">The UK 1940s Radio Station<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"The UK 1940's Radio Station\" href=\"http:\/\/www.1940sukradio.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\">The UK 1940s Radio Station<\/a>\u00a0runs\u00a024 hour a day and plays an amazing mix of 1940s era music. Unlike <em>40&#8217;s on 40<\/em>,\u00a0\u00a0<a title=\"The UK 1940's Radio Station\" href=\"http:\/\/www.1940sukradio.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\">The UK 1940s Radio Station<\/a>\u00a0has authentic recordings of news clips and even original advertisements they play throughout their music mix. \u00a0The\u00a0<em>40s on 4<\/em>, at least when I last listened, still had a pseudo-1940s-sounding announcer (Ed Baxter) and often reproduced news broadcasts; I prefer the real period recordings, personally.
