So the SNR should be about the same as mono.<\/p>\n<p>Selective fading doesn&#8217;t affect the comb bands much, so the balance is largely unaffected by selective fading notches.<\/p>\n<p>The Comb Stereo artifacts are much like typical music effects of echo, chorus, fast reverb or room reflections.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>You can read about it here on Daz&#8217; web site: <a href=\"http:\/\/homepages.ihug.com.au\/~daz2002\/tech\/CombStereo\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">homepages.ihug.com.au\/~daz2002\/tech\/CombStereo\/<\/a><\/p>\n<p>You can also read Roseanna&#8217;s comment on the SLWing.com blog post: <a href=\"https:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/2020\/04\/rnei-now-broadcasting-in-comb-stereo\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">https:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/2020\/04\/rnei-now-broadcasting-in-comb-stereo\/<\/a><\/p>\n<p>An enhanced version is broadcast on WRMI for the RNEI time slot on Thursday morning (01:00 UTC) on 5850 kHz.\u00a0 It sounds very good and is not a pseudo-stereo like in <a href=\"https:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/2021\/05\/tomls-guide-to-making-and-optimizing-shortwave-radio-sdr-music-recordings\/\">my previous article, Music on Shortwave<\/a>.\u00a0 For one thing, pseudo stereo is not real two-channel encoding and shifts vocals to one side, depending on which channels are chosen for high and low filters, which might get annoying after awhile.\u00a0 What seems amazing to me is that I have been able apply some minor noise reduction in Audacity and the Comb Stereo stays perfectly intact.\u00a0 It also still works after converting the WAV file to MP3 and sounds much like a regular FM broadcast.\u00a0 Furthermore, it does not require a special patented transmitter or receiver chip.\u00a0 It is compatible with regular mono transmitters.<\/p>\n<p>If you want to try it, go to the RNEI web site; download and install the two files listed (VB Audio Cable and CombStereo Pedalboard x64):<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/rnei.org\/stereo\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">https:\/\/rnei.org\/stereo\/<\/a><\/p>\n<p>It is slightly tricky to setup and use or you will not hear anything (most Windows systems default to 48000 Hz these days).\u00a0 Right-click on the lower-right taskbar Sounds settings.\u00a0 Make sure to setup Properties \u2013 Advanced in both the VB-Audio Virtual Cable (Playback and Recording) and your output speakers (Playback) to 24-bit 44100 Hz processing.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/44100hz.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-48919\" src=\"https:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/44100hz.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"464\" srcset=\"https:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/44100hz.jpg 800w, https:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/44100hz-300x174.jpg 300w, https:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/44100hz-768x445.jpg 768w, https:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/44100hz-624x362.jpg 624w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Now run the app Pedalboard BAT file which corresponds to the broadcast you recorded (in this example \u201cStart Comb Stereo for WRMI.bat\u201d).\u00a0 Set the Options &#8211; Audio Settings:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/pedalboard2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-48920\" src=\"https:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/pedalboard2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"751\" height=\"608\" srcset=\"https:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/pedalboard2.jpg 751w, https:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/pedalboard2-300x243.jpg 300w, https:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/pedalboard2-624x505.jpg 624w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 751px) 100vw, 751px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Since the VB-Audio Virtual Cable takes over your volume output, adjust the volume of your Speakers in Windows&#8217;
