{"id":53572,"date":"2022-07-31T06:06:40","date_gmt":"2022-07-31T10:06:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/?p=53572"},"modified":"2022-07-31T06:06:40","modified_gmt":"2022-07-31T10:06:40","slug":"the-voice-of-greece-is-no-longer-on-shortwave","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/2022\/07\/the-voice-of-greece-is-no-longer-on-shortwave\/","title":{"rendered":"The Voice of Greece is no longer on shortwave"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/Tecsun-PL-990x-PL-990-7.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-44937\" src=\"https:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/Tecsun-PL-990x-PL-990-7.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1600\" height=\"1200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/Tecsun-PL-990x-PL-990-7.jpeg 1600w, https:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/Tecsun-PL-990x-PL-990-7-300x225.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/Tecsun-PL-990x-PL-990-7-1024x768.jpeg 1024w, https:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/Tecsun-PL-990x-PL-990-7-768x576.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/Tecsun-PL-990x-PL-990-7-1536x1152.jpeg 1536w, https:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/Tecsun-PL-990x-PL-990-7-624x468.jpeg 624w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1600px) 100vw, 1600px\" \/><\/a>I suppose I&#8217;ve been holding out hope that the <strong>Voice of Greece<\/strong> would magically reappear on 9,420 kHz, but they&#8217;ve been off the air for 45 days now and we must assume this time it&#8217;s for good.<\/p>\n<p>Over the past decade the Voice of Greece seems to have weathered every storm it encountered; even <a href=\"https:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/2015\/04\/greece-to-re-open-state-broadcaster-ert\/\">broadcasting for weeks without a license<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>We learned in February 2022 that VOG was <a href=\"https:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/2022\/02\/voice-of-greece-faces-an-uncertain-future-possible-closure\/\">on the chopping block<\/a>, then they were given an <a href=\"https:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/2022\/04\/voice-of-greece-closure-delayed-two-months\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">additional two months on the air<\/a>, and according to numerous DXers here and on Twitter, the last broadcast seems to have taken place on June 15, 2022.<\/p>\n<p>I certainly haven&#8217;t heard them on shortwave since then.<\/p>\n<p>VOG was one of my favorite, reliable sources of music on shortwave and you&#8217;ll notice that in many of my radio photos, the dial is tuned to 9,420 kHz because they were such an easy catch here in eastern North America regardless of propagation.<\/p>\n<p>If you miss hearing VOG on shortwave you can, of course, still <a href=\"https:\/\/webradio.ert.gr\/i-foni-tis-elladas\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">listen to them online.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve well over one hundred hours of Voice of Greece recordings in my spectrum archives, at <a href=\"https:\/\/shortwavearchive.com\/archive\/tag\/Voice+of+Greece\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the Shortwave Radio Audio Archive<\/a>, and here on the <em>SWLing Post<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>In fact, I&#8217;m reminded of one of my favorite VOG listening sessions which I&#8217;ll share here from the <em>SWLing Post<\/em> archives.
