The KHKA facility, located at Kahauiki Village, joins<br \/>\nFEMA&#8217;s National Public Warning System (NPWS), which provides critical<br \/>\ninformation to the public before, during, and after emergency incidents<br \/>\nand disasters.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">The NPWS emergency broadcast facility, part of the Integrated Public<br \/>\nAlert and Warning System (IPAWS), includes improved operational<br \/>\ncapabilities for up to two months, expanded broadcast capacity,<br \/>\nemergency power generation, and other resilient protective measures for<br \/>\nall types of hazardous events, increasing KHKA&#8217;s ability to continue<br \/>\nbroadcasting during emergencies.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">In the event of a disaster, trained staff can operate the emergency<br \/>\nfacilities for several weeks to keep KHKA on air to broadcast messages<br \/>\nfrom the local, state, and federal governments, as well as community<br \/>\norganizations.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">&#8211; &#8211; &#8211;<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>FEMA Unveils Disaster-Resistant Broadcast Studio in Hawaii<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>KHNL-TV Honolulu, HI<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hawaiinewsnow.com\/2023\/05\/25\/fema-unveils-disaster-resistant-broadcast-studio-hawaii\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">https:\/\/www.hawaiinewsnow.com\/2023\/05\/25\/fema-unveils-disaster-resistant-broadcast-studio-hawaii\/<\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">As the official start of hurricane season approaches on June 1, federal<br \/>\nand local emergency officials introduced a critical tool Wednesday to<br \/>\nkeep the public informed in the event of a disaster.<br \/>\nFEMA unveiled a brand new emergency broadcast radio studio that sits on<br \/>\nthe grounds of Kahauiki village near Keehi Lagoon.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">The facility features a full media setup designed to keep transmitting<br \/>\ncommunications through any type of threat.<br \/>\n&#8220;Everything from tsunamis to earthquakes to tornadoes to hurricanes,&#8221;<br \/>\nsaid FEMA national public warning system manager Manny Centeno.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">&#8211; &#8211; &#8211;<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>Prepared for Anything: Hawaii&#8217;s Emergency Broadcast Studio<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>KHON-TV Honolulu, HI<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.khon2.com\/local-news\/prepared-for-anything-hawaiis-emergency-broadcast-studio\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">https:\/\/www.khon2.com\/local-news\/prepared-for-anything-hawaiis-emergency-broadcast-studio\/<\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">A new facility on Oahu is already relaying information to help recovery<br \/>\nefforts in Guam, even though Hawaii is almost 4,000 miles away.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">The Federal Emergency Management Agency gave a tour of their new<br \/>\nemergency broadcast studio on Wednesday, May 24; but the hope is that<br \/>\nlocals never need to use it.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">The footprint of the studio itself is small, but it is quite a tank. It<br \/>\nis engineered to keep broadcasting before, during and after natural<br \/>\nemergencies like hurricanes and tsunamis. The station is even made to<br \/>\nwithstand man-made catastrophes.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">&#8220;This thing is designed to protect against high-altitude electromagnetic<br \/>\npulse, EMP.
