{"id":57987,"date":"2023-10-13T10:00:13","date_gmt":"2023-10-13T14:00:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/?p=57987"},"modified":"2023-10-13T06:40:34","modified_gmt":"2023-10-13T10:40:34","slug":"important-change-to-the-great-medium-wave-grey-line-challenge","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/2023\/10\/important-change-to-the-great-medium-wave-grey-line-challenge\/","title":{"rendered":"Important change to The Great Medium Wave Grey Line Challenge"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/Screenshot-2023-09-24-120532.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-57833\" src=\"https:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/Screenshot-2023-09-24-120532.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"610\" height=\"448\" srcset=\"https:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/Screenshot-2023-09-24-120532.jpg 610w, https:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/Screenshot-2023-09-24-120532-300x220.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 610px) 100vw, 610px\" \/><\/a>by Jock Elliott, KB2GOM<\/p>\n<p>On the very helpful advice of 13dka, who noted that &#8220;this should be optional \u2013 the grayline happens twice a day, with the morning grayline favoring westerly propagation paths and the evening grayline the east,&#8221; <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">participants in the challenge can now choose either the grey line in the morning as the sun rises, or the grey line in the evening as the sun sets . . . but not both<\/span>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Otherwise, the rules remain the same, and the challenge will be open for participation with the grey line at dawn tomorrow.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Frequency range is the medium wave band: 520-1710 kHz<\/li>\n<li>From one hour <em>before<\/em> Civil Twilight <strong><u>your local time<\/u><\/strong> on<em><strong> Saturday, October 14<\/strong><\/em>, to one hour <em>after<\/em> Civil Twilight at your location . . . at either sunrise or sunset.<\/li>\n<li>Any radio with any antenna, but must be the radio at your location (no using remote internet radios)<\/li>\n<li>The listener must hear the signal in real time<\/li>\n<li>The stations must be ID\u2019ed by listening to the signal.<\/li>\n<li>Your report should include:\n<ul>\n<li>Your name (or Internet handle)<\/li>\n<li>Your receiver and antenna (stay with the same setup from beginning to end; if you use multiple setups, provide a separate report for each).<\/li>\n<li>Your location<\/li>\n<li>The time, the frequency, and the ID of each station heard<\/li>\n<li>The total mileage of your top five most distant stations.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Thank you 13dka for the sage advice.<\/p>\n<p>You can find when Civil Twilight begins at your location by visiting <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wunderground.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">www.wunderground.com<\/a>\u00a0 .
