I asked how to do it and got an answer but did not find a linked post that would help.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">So as usual a wikipedia is helpful: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sigidwiki.com\/wiki\/WEFAX\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">WEFAX &#8211; Signal Identification Wiki<\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">Which led me to realize\u2026 I already owned the Black Cat Systems decoder in my iPhone, but alas had never tried to use it!<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">So I reinstalled the HF FAX program. It had been included in a package of iPhone ham software programs I had previously purchased. I then searched the frequencies linked here: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.weather.gov\/marine\/uscg_broadcasts\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Marine Weather Broadcasts from the USCG<\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">And soon after on 12179kc on my D-808 around Noon eastern time on 11\/4\/23 was decoding my first partial wx fax from Boston, I believe:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/HFFax-Images-John-Johnson-1.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-58156\" src=\"https:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/HFFax-Images-John-Johnson-1.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"750\" height=\"1334\" srcset=\"https:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/HFFax-Images-John-Johnson-1.jpeg 750w, https:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/HFFax-Images-John-Johnson-1-169x300.jpeg 169w, https:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/HFFax-Images-John-Johnson-1-576x1024.jpeg 576w, https:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/HFFax-Images-John-Johnson-1-624x1110.jpeg 624w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">I then started fine tuning the D-808 and as you can see the fax quality began to improve significantly\u2026<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/HFFax-Images-John-Johnson-cropped-1.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-58157\" src=\"https:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/HFFax-Images-John-Johnson-cropped-1.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1280\" height=\"568\" srcset=\"https:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/HFFax-Images-John-Johnson-cropped-1.jpeg 1280w, https:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/HFFax-Images-John-Johnson-cropped-1-300x133.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/HFFax-Images-John-Johnson-cropped-1-1024x454.jpeg 1024w, https:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/HFFax-Images-John-Johnson-cropped-1-768x341.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/HFFax-Images-John-Johnson-cropped-1-624x277.jpeg 624w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1280px) 100vw, 1280px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">Alas the signal ended very abruptly, before I could perfectly tune it\u2026 I never received a complete fax but this was a fun radio exercise and I will keep at it.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">WxFax (this is my name for it) reminds me of my NDB beacons. Both are older tech that appear to be rapidly disappearing. Just last night I was happy to tune two new but weak Canadian LW beacons from my Michigan location on my D-808. Alas I then refreshed the dxcentre NDB list&#8211;at: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dxinfocentre.com\/ndb.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">https:\/\/www.dxinfocentre.com\/ndb.htm<\/a>&#8211;only to find that I would be losing 3 relatively strong beacons to decommission within weeks!
