According to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/spaceweather.com\/images2024\/01jan24\/nasamodel.gif\">a NASA model<\/a>, it should strike our planet on Jan. 2nd.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/spaceweather.com\/glossary\/g2.jpg\">G2<\/a>-class geomagnetic storms are possible when the CME arrives.\u00a0<strong>CME impact alerts:<\/strong>\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/spaceweatheralerts.com\/\">SMS Text<\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\" align=\"left\"><strong>MAJOR X-CLASS SOLAR FLARE:\u00a0<\/strong>Mere hours after emerging over the sun&#8217;s eastern limb on Dec. 31st,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/spaceweather.com\/images2023\/31dec23\/newspot_anim_strip.gif\">big sunspot AR3536<\/a>\u00a0erupted, producing a major X5-class solar flare. NASA&#8217;s Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO) recorded the extreme ultraviolet flash:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/x5_teal_strip.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-58618\" src=\"https:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/x5_teal_strip.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"520\" height=\"520\" srcset=\"https:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/x5_teal_strip.jpg 520w, https:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/x5_teal_strip-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/x5_teal_strip-150x150.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 520px) 100vw, 520px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">This is the strongest flare of Solar Cycle 25 (so far) and the most powerful eruption the sun has produced since the great storms of Sept. 2017.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">Radiation from the flare has caused a deep shortwave radio blackout over the Pacific Ocean: blackout map.
