(RNZ)<\/a><\/h1>\n<audio class=\"wp-audio-shortcode\" id=\"audio-59522-1\" preload=\"none\" style=\"width: 100%;\" controls=\"controls\"><source type=\"audio\/mpeg\" src=\"https:\/\/podcast.radionz.co.nz\/mnr\/mnr-20240412-0756-rnz_national_its_the_pips-128.mp3?_=1\" \/><a href=\"https:\/\/podcast.radionz.co.nz\/mnr\/mnr-20240412-0756-rnz_national_its_the_pips-128.mp3\">https:\/\/podcast.radionz.co.nz\/mnr\/mnr-20240412-0756-rnz_national_its_the_pips-128.mp3<\/a><\/audio>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">RNZ National is changing the pips &#8211; the beeps that mark the start of each hour which play immediately before the news bulletin broadcast.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">The pips were last changed in 2013 when a lightning strike damaged the clock which sent signals from the Measurement Standards Laboratory&#8217;s atomic clock.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">The replacement sound was a little higher.
