No signal. It sounded strange, so I did some research. I don&#8217;t expect a reply. If and when I do get one, I&#8217;ll post it here.<\/p>\n<p>Since the COVID-19 pandemic, I&#8217;ve been tuning in to and receiving Kyodo News radiofax transmissions.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"embed-youtube\" style=\"text-align:center; display: block;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"youtube-player\" width=\"625\" height=\"352\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/iyOGyrHU0Ek?version=3&#038;rel=1&#038;showsearch=0&#038;showinfo=1&#038;iv_load_policy=1&#038;fs=1&#038;hl=en-US&#038;autohide=2&#038;wmode=transparent\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" style=\"border:0;\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts allow-same-origin allow-popups allow-presentation allow-popups-to-escape-sandbox\"><\/iframe><\/span><\/p>\n<p>There were <a href=\"https:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/tag\/kyodo-news-agency\/\">countless posts on the <em>SWLing Post<\/em><\/a>. I have nothing to complain about; I made the most of it while I could. I even started an illustrated diary with the printed radiofax pages, which unfortunately I was unable to complete.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/End-of-Kyodo-News-Latuff-1.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-67152\" src=\"https:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/End-of-Kyodo-News-Latuff-1.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1200\" height=\"904\" srcset=\"https:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/End-of-Kyodo-News-Latuff-1.jpeg 1200w, https:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/End-of-Kyodo-News-Latuff-1-300x226.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/End-of-Kyodo-News-Latuff-1-1024x771.jpeg 1024w, https:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/End-of-Kyodo-News-Latuff-1-768x579.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/End-of-Kyodo-News-Latuff-1-624x470.jpeg 624w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Even though it&#8217;s a Japanese company, and the Japanese remain firmly attached to their traditions, Kyodo News has just embraced modernity, practicality, and cost reduction, because after all, maintaining shortwave transmitters and radiofax costs money, and the vast majority of its audience receives Kyodo News reports over the Internet. One of the reasons the news agency was still using radiofax was the fact that the Internet does not reach the crews of Japanese vessels, but this is changing, with new technologies allowing ships to receive reports, whether news or weather bulletins, via satellite.<\/p>\n<p>The fact is, the new always comes along, and no matter how nostalgic we may be (and I am very nostalgic!), there&#8217;s no way to stop changes. A sad day for me and for the many people who, like me, became used to receiving Kyodo News radiofax transmissions.<\/p>\n<p>Kyodo News was the last company on the planet still sending bulletins by radiofax. With the discontinuation of this service, an era is coming to an end as well. Radiofax&#8217;s days are numbered.
