When I hear Radio Casablanca, I close my eyes and imagine what it must have been like to hear the great bands of the era over the shortwaves&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Radio nostalgia at its best.<\/p>\n<p>The signal strength is always sufficient to be heard in relatively good fidelity here in my radio room, but not so strong as to detract from the perceived distance. I believe the recording you&#8217;ll hear below could very well mimic broadcasts over shortwave, heard across borders during WWII as well as listened to on classic console radios in people&#8217;s living rooms and front parlors.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/RadioCasablancaQSL.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-7213\" alt=\"RadioCasablancaQSL\" src=\"http:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/RadioCasablancaQSL.jpg\" width=\"650\" height=\"410\" srcset=\"https:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/RadioCasablancaQSL.jpg 650w, https:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/RadioCasablancaQSL-300x189.jpg 300w, https:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/RadioCasablancaQSL-100x63.jpg 100w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 650px) 100vw, 650px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>When my buddy Mark Coady posted that he was listening to\u00a0<em>Radio Casablanca<\/em>\u00a0Tuesday night on 6940 kHz AM, I immediately rushed outside to hook up my antenna, and started rolling. \u00a0I didn&#8217;t want to miss even\u00a0<em>one more minute<\/em>\u00a0(I came across Mark&#8217;s post about twenty minutes into the broadcast). Though regional storms produced some static pops and crashes, overall fidelity is decent. You will hear the filter and side-band sync being adjusted at times as I attempted to eliminate adjacent noises&#8211;which, in the end, are all a part of the listening experience.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.org\/download\/RadioCasablancaV26.94MHz4SEP13013\/RadioCasablancaV2-6.94MHz-4SEP13-013.mp3\" target=\"_blank\">Click here to download an MP3 of the recording<\/a>, or simply listen via the embedded player below.
