{"id":9779,"date":"2014-05-30T09:18:17","date_gmt":"2014-05-30T13:18:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/?p=9779"},"modified":"2014-05-30T09:18:17","modified_gmt":"2014-05-30T13:18:17","slug":"an-easier-way-to-comment-on-the-swling-post","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/2014\/05\/an-easier-way-to-comment-on-the-swling-post\/","title":{"rendered":"An easier way to comment on the SWLing Post"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>If you&#8217;ve ever commented on the <em>SWLing Post<\/em> (or almost any other website, for that matter), you&#8217;ve no doubt been challenged by a CAPTCHA code before your comment could be published.\u00a0The CAPTCHA system saves this blog from <em>hundreds<\/em> of bogus comments each day so it&#8217;s a necessary tool.<\/p>\n<p>For those of you not familiar, CAPTCHAs look like this:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/CAPTCHA-code.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-9780\" src=\"http:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/CAPTCHA-code.jpg\" alt=\"CAPTCHA-code\" width=\"615\" height=\"138\" srcset=\"https:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/CAPTCHA-code.jpg 615w, https:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/CAPTCHA-code-300x67.jpg 300w, https:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/CAPTCHA-code-100x22.jpg 100w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 615px) 100vw, 615px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>While the CAPTCHA code above is relatively simple, many are <em>not<\/em> and require several attempts before you can prove to CAPTCHA that you&#8217;re a human and not a SPAMbot. In this sense, CAPTCHAs\u00a0can be rather annoying.<\/p>\n<p><strong>How to get around CAPTCHA on the SWLing Post<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>If you&#8217;re a regular here on the <em>SWLing Post<\/em> and would like to comment without a CAPTCHA moderation, I can register you for a subscriber account on the <em>SWLing Post<\/em>. I&#8217;ve made it so that CAPTCHA will skip any <em>SWLing Post<\/em> account holder <em>who is logged in at time of comment<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Because of SPAMbots and Malware, I don&#8217;t make registration open to the public; I manually create each account.<\/p>\n<p>If you would like an account, <a title=\"Contact\" href=\"http:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/contact\/\" target=\"_blank\">simply email me with the following info<\/a>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Your preferred <strong>username<\/strong> (a one word name, callsign, etc.)<\/li>\n<li>Your valid <strong>email address<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>The <strong>make and model of your favorite radio<\/strong>\u00a0(just a test to make sure you&#8217;re human! SPAMbots rarely listen to the shortwaves.)<\/li>\n<li>Optional: your <strong>personal website URL<\/strong> (if you have a blog, etc.)<\/li>\n<li>Optional: your <strong>full name<\/strong> (only if you want your name to show with your comments)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>I&#8217;ll assign you a password which you can change later.<\/p>\n<p>As soon as I create your account, you&#8217;ll receive a short email with your username, password and the URL to log in.<\/p>\n<p><strong>You&#8217;ll need to be logged in to the <em>SWLing Post<\/em> to avoid the CAPTCHA code<\/strong>, but I think it&#8217;s a much easier and quicker way to comment.<\/p>\n<p>Again, if you would like to register, <a title=\"Contact\" href=\"http:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/contact\/\" target=\"_blank\">simply send the info above via the email address on my Contact page.<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>If you&#8217;ve ever commented on the SWLing Post (or almost any other website, for that matter), you&#8217;ve no doubt been challenged by a CAPTCHA code before your comment could be published.\u00a0The CAPTCHA system saves this blog from hundreds of bogus comments each day so it&#8217;s a necessary tool.
