Normally, I ignore most DRM signals because the amount of signal strength needed to properly decode the mode (here in the US) is simply too low for pleasant, artifact-free copy.<\/p>\n<p>Still, I thought I&#8217;d give <a title=\"The Elad FDM-S2 SDR: Unboxing, installing, and a first recording\" href=\"http:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/2014\/06\/the-elad-fdm-s2-sdr-unboxing-installing-and-a-first-recording\/\" target=\"_blank\">the new Elad FDM-S2<\/a> a try, so I changed mode from AM to DRM.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/RNZI-DRM-003.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-9931\" src=\"http:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/RNZI-DRM-003.jpg\" alt=\"RNZI-DRM-003\" width=\"649\" height=\"480\" srcset=\"https:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/RNZI-DRM-003.jpg 649w, https:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/RNZI-DRM-003-300x221.jpg 300w, https:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/RNZI-DRM-003-100x73.jpg 100w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 649px) 100vw, 649px\" \/><\/a>To my amazement, the FDM-S2 quickly decoded the signal and produced excellent\u00a0audio from <a href=\"http:\/\/swling.com\/blog\/tag\/rnzi\" target=\"_blank\">Radio New Zealand International<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>I assumed the decoding lock would not hold, <em>but I was wrong<\/em>; indeed, I believe there were only one or two significant drops in the 40+ minutes I listened. This may be a very good sign from the FDM-S2, even if propagation was above average.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m not a big DRM listener, but that&#8217;s mainly because there is so little to hear on the bands.
