Many thanks to SWLing Post contributor, London Shortwave, who shared a link to this Sony CRF-V21 on eBay:

I’m sure a Sony collector will eventually snag this rig. Thought the listing mentions no shipping outside the UK, the Seller states otherwise:
“[I]f you don’t live in uk you can arrange a courier at your own cost”
Do any SWLing Post readers own the CRF-V21? Please comment!
699 pounds for parts not working is ridiculous.
Last year there was a working one on ebay for 800$
Didn’t this radio decode FAX or RTTY? I seem to remember that when it first came out, hence the roll of paper coming out of the radio.
The Sony CRF-V21 was ‘the’ receiver to have back in the day (Cost thousands back in the late 80’s and thousands was mega bucks then!) and I remember pining for one that was on the back cover of Short Wave Magazine here in the UK, but nowadays though much better kit about and all the Fax/RTTY can be easily done on mobiles or raspberry pi’s/computers. As for the satellite stuff, the dish/LNB would cost more than the receiver now.
Actually, £699+ for an old receiver with a bust display (unobtainium) and more than likely dried out electrolytics….no thanks…collector or not, I don’t think it is worth that. Don’t get me wrong, if someone offered me one for a decent price I would bite their hand off but for a couple of hundred quid more you have an IC-7300, you really have to be sensible and stop and think, and don’t get sentimental 🙂
Agreed. Don’t like the tone of the description. Sounds like someone selling something they have no real knowledge of.
Very rare indeed … I’ve never seen this model before. But the seller sounds like a crotchety old man telling kids to “get off my lawn” … wow …
