Encore – Classical Music on Saturday Sunday and Friday

This weekend Encore – Classical Music on Radio Tumbril will be broadcast on 9350 kHz by WWCR on Saturday 4th January 21:00 UTC 9350  – to the US and Canada and the signal should carry to part of western Europe too.
Encore – Classical Music will also be broadcast as usual by Channel 292 (Europe) on 6070 kHz at 15:00 UTC Sunday 5th January.
And by WBCQ on 7490 kHz at 01:00 UTC Monday 6th January.
There is a repeat on 6070 kHz on Friday 10th January at 19:00 UTC.
For the next few weeks – there will also be a trial second repeat on 7440 kHz from Channel 292 at 09:00 UTC on Sundays – try tuning in – it can be a nice clean signal- and send us a reception report if you can.

This week’s programme Starts with an overture from Mozart followed by the three Gymnopédies by Satie. Then a little offering from Stockhausen contrasted with a 12th century monophonic monastic song. Next we’ll have a Bach partita,  some Ravel, and a sonata for Flute, Viola and Harp by Debussy. The last piece will be part of Mendelssohn’s violin concerto.

This week’s programme starts with a Mozart piano trio, then a couple of absorbing contemporary works, followed by two songs about the cold from Schubert. Vaughan Williams next with The Banks of Green Willow. The second half of the show has some Rossini, Jennifer Higdon, Malcolm Arnold and finishes with O Let me Weep from Purcell’s The Fairy Queen. This coming weekend Encore – Classical Music on Radio Tumbril will be broadcasting on a third frequency again:
The folks at WWCR in Tennessee are transmitting the show for the fourth week running at 01:00 UTC Sunday 8th (Saturday evening 7th local in US) on 6115 kHz.
However – next weekend Saturday 14th December we will change frequency and time to 9350 kHz at 21:00 UTC from WWCR
This change is in order to further improve reception in the US and Canada still further and move Encore to Saturday afternoon (local) in the US.
Reception should also be possible in the western half of Europe.

After that we have two versions of a movement from Arcadiana by Thomas Ades – one instrumental and the other choral – for comparison. Some electronic music from 1980s to follow then a couple of pieces by Rameau and finally a Beethoven piano sonata.

This week’s programme has a varied mix of great classical music to enjoy. A clarinet Trio by Brahms, some of a string quartet by Beethoven – his last one – the 13th, and some singing from 12th century France.  We’ve more clarinet from Mozart – to compare and contrast with the Brahms, and then two lieder from Schubert’s Winterreise – performed by Fischer-Dieskau and Alfred Brendel.  The contemporary composer Meredith Monk does something extraordinary with a few instruments and the human voice before we finish with La Péri by Paul Dukas.
