This week the programme starts with a piano piece by Liszt and is followed by a song from the Elizabethan poet Thomas Campion. After that – some of a string Quartet by Danish composer Carl Nielsen, and a lullaby from Brahms.
The first movement of Rachmaninoff’s 2nd symphony and some of Copland’s Appalachian Spring next. The programme finishes with a bit of harp music and the Bartok Quartet playing Mozart.

This week the programme begins with two Beethoven piano pieces. Then part of the Gran Partita by Mozart. After that a piece called Punctum By Caroline Shaw and part of Tchaikovsky’s violin concerto in D major.
A work featuring the theremin next, which was part of the music for the film Ed Wood. Lastly we will listen to Palestrina’s setting of the Stabat Mater.

Contemporary composer Cheryl Frances-Hoad next with two movements from her suite Katharsis. After that an interesting pairing of a song by Schubert and a 1960s folk song. The programme finishes with a quartet for english horn and strings by Jean Françaix.

Encore’s usual broadcast on 6070 kHz at 19:00 UTC Friday will continue to be simulcast on 3955 kHz.
It is, of course,  the final repeat of the previous Saturday’s show.
We are also trying 3955 at 21:00 UTC on Sundays – when it will be mostly dusk or dark and so good propagation is expected.

Contemporary compositions by Beth Anderson; Piano and strings, and Matthew Embleton: solo lute, add to the mix. There is even some organ music by Vidor which might bring back a few memories.

This week the programme has plenty of woodwind. The adagio for English horn by Mozart, a quartet featuring the English horn, and part of a wind quintet by Danzi – all gentle and soothing.

Encore – Classical Music on Radio Tumbril – First transmission on 3955 kHz Today

Channel 292 are hoping to begin transmitting on 3955 kHz today – Friday 1st May – from Germany.
Encore’s usual broadcast on 6070 kHz at 19:00 UTC Friday will now be simulcast on 3955 kHz.
The first programme will, of course, be the final repeat of last Saturday’s show.

The WRMI broadcast to Europe on Thursday 30th April at 20:00 – 21:00 UTC was particularly well propagated with excellent musical quality for SW.
As the days lengthen propagation may well continue to improve at this time and frequency.
