Encore – Classical Music – new frequency and time

This coming weekend Encore – Classical Music on Radio Tumbril will be broadcasting on a new and even better frequency and time via WWCR in Tennessee.
Saturday 14th December 21:00 UTC 9350 kHz – this is the afternoon in US and Canada and the signal should carry to western Europe too.
This replaces the 01:00 Broadcast by WWCR on 6115 kHz.
Encore – Classical Music this weekend is – of course – being broadcast as usual by Channel 292 (Europe) on 6070 kHz at 15:00 UTC Sunday 15th December.
And by WBCQ on 7490 kHz at 01:00 UTC Monday 16th December.
There is a repeat on 6070 kHz on Friday 20th December at 19:00 UTC.

This week’s programme starts with a Mozart piano trio, then a couple of absorbing contemporary works, followed by two songs about the cold from Schubert. Vaughan Williams next with The Banks of Green Willow. The second half of the show has some Rossini, Jennifer Higdon, Malcolm Arnold and finishes with O Let me Weep from Purcell’s The Fairy Queen. Tune in if you can.

Encore – Classical Music on Shortwave – Saturday Sunday Friday

This coming weekend Encore – Classical Music on Radio Tumbril will be broadcasting on a third frequency again:
The folks at WWCR in Tennessee are transmitting the show for the fourth week running at 01:00 UTC Sunday 8th (Saturday evening 7th local in US) on 6115 kHz.
However – next weekend Saturday 14th December we will change frequency and time to 9350 kHz at 21:00 UTC from WWCR
This change is in order to further improve reception in the US and Canada still further and move Encore to Saturday afternoon (local) in the US.
Reception should also be possible in the western half of Europe.
Encore – Classical Music this weekend is – of course – being broadcast as usual by Channel 292 (Europe) on 6070 kHz at 15:00 UTC Sunday 8th December.
And by WBCQ on 7490 kHz at 01:00 UTC Monday 9th December.

This week’s programme starts with a late string quartet by Mozart and is followed by an arrangement of a traditional Irish tune by Percy Grainger.  The overture and an aria from Händel’s Orlando next, then the 4th movement from Schubert’s Trout Quintet. A field recording, a large chunk of Copland’s Appalachian Spring, some Rimsky-Korsakov and a clarinet sonata make up the rest of the hour.

After that we have two versions of a movement from Arcadiana by Thomas Ades – one instrumental and the other choral – for comparison. Some electronic music from 1980s to follow then a couple of pieces by Rameau and finally a Beethoven piano sonata.

This week’s programme has a varied mix of great classical music to enjoy. A clarinet Trio by Brahms, some of a string quartet by Beethoven – his last one – the 13th, and some singing from 12th century France.  We’ve more clarinet from Mozart – to compare and contrast with the Brahms, and then two lieder from Schubert’s Winterreise – performed by Fischer-Dieskau and Alfred Brendel.  The contemporary composer Meredith Monk does something extraordinary with a few instruments and the human voice before we finish with La Péri by Paul Dukas.

The folks at WWCR in Tennessee are transmitting the show for the first time at 01:00 UTC Sunday 17th (Saturday evening 16th local in US) on 6115 kHz.
Encore – Classical Music this weekend is – of course – being broadcast as usual by Channel 292 (Europe) on 6070 kHz at 15:00 UTC Sunday 17th November.

This week’s programme starts with a Boccherini quintet. Then a motet by William Byrd – his Ave Verum Corpus. Brahms Hungarian Dance No. 1, a string quartet by Jancek, some Grieg, Britten and a movement from Beethoven’s Pastoral symphony follow on. A song by Purcell, A sonata for flute and harp and a movement from Mozart’s piano concerto No. 21 finish the hour.
