This week the programme is has a bit of a new age feel to it. There is some electronica from Ani Williams – her invocation to Hathor, and Jessita Reyes playing native American flute in her composition Early Morning.
We have some slightly more conventional but very beautiful solo classical guitar from Jim Perkins and a duet for flute and cello by another contemporary composer, Yoel Reza Afhami.
There is also A string quartet by Haydn, a long piece by Dvorák, and two Scriabin piano preludes to balance things out.

This week the programme Starts with some of Albinoni’s concerto for two oboes and is followed by the Passacaglia (a series of variations over a repeating bass line) from Britten’s cello suite No. 3.
Then something even more modern; the Bagpiper’s String Trio by Judith Weir. Next some Mozart violin followed by some contemporary quartet music and then the rest of the oboe concerto.
The programme finishes with Veni Sancte Spiritus by John Dunstable and part of a piano concerto by Scriabin.

This week the programme will feature pieces that were going to be played in concerts in Europe and the US but which have been cancelled in response to Covid-19.
There will be a selection from Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition, some songs by Henry Deparc, part of the St Matthew Passion by Bach, some of Alfred Schnittke’s String Quartet No. 3, a Pas de Deux from Swan Lake, and the Rondo form Beethoven’s Emperor concerto.

Encore – Classical Music on Shortwave

EUROPE:
This coming weekend Encore – Classical Music on Radio Tumbril will be broadcast at 11:00 UTC on SATURDAY on 6070 kHz by Channel 292.
There are two repeats – 19:00 UTC Friday on 6070 kHz, and 09:00 UTC on Sunday on 7440 kHz by Channel 292.
NORTH AMERICA:
WRMI will  broadcast Encore to the US and Canada on 5850 kHz 01:00 UTC Sunday and 9455 kHz 03:00 UTC Monday this weekend.
WBCQ Maine will send out the show on 7490 kHz at 01:00 UTC Monday to the US. (Broadcasts by WBCQ will stop in a week or two.)

This week’s programme has the usual interesting mix of music – we have a Bach cello solo, some songs, an overture (King Arthur) by Henry Purcell, some exciting contemporary compositions and a bit of Janá?ek.
There will also be the first piece we have played on Encore by Szymanowski – his Lullaby Op. 52 – some Bruckner, some Hamish MacCunn, and music for flutes harp and lute.
A very varied selection as usual – but they seem to go well together. I hope you enjoy the sequence.
