Bruce discovers a bit of Morse Code in “Picnic At Hanging Rock”

Many thanks to SWLing Post contributor, Bruce Fisher, who writes:

I recorded this short piece of the soundtrack from the 3rd episode of the Picnic at Hanging Rock mini series– it’s being used as a part of the music to an eerie scene, and there is no telegraph or radio related visual corresponding to it. It certainly sounds like Morse Code to me, but I haven’t decoded it. Anyone?

Many thanks, Bruce! You certainly have sharp ears and are correct in assuming this is Morse Code. The spacing and cadence are a little awkward and jittery, however. I did a decode myself, but I’m curious what others might have heard.

Post readers: Please comment with what you heard in this code!

Is anyone else getting a bit tired of these “tangentially radio-related snippet found in obscure American TV show” posts? There seem to be more and more of these and less interesting actual radio posts lately.

Actually I quite like these posts! I don’t really watch TV or film these days as I prefer books and radio. I don’t have Netflix or any other online accounts. This gives me a window into some of this programming. I gather there’s a bit of an uptick in radio’s use in set design. [Or perhaps it’s similar to when you buy a new car and then start noticing the same make and model everywhere on the M25!] I think it’s pretty interesting especially when you strain to see a set in the background of a scene and then ID it.

I subscribe to Radio User and would recommend it to others. It’s not an inexpensive magazine when you’re on a pension. However I skip through 20% of the articles because some just don’t interest me. That’s okay though! Radio User, like SWLing here, caters to a much larger community than just me and I’m quite ok with that. And on occasion I actually get drawn into the the 20%. Makes for a little discovery.

Just scroll past what doesn’t interest you I say.

I particularly like posts with radio appearances in TV and movies so my vote is for more!

And even more homebrew projects as I do love them! Speaking of which I’ve a small vertical loop antenna project I thought about writing up for SWLing and need to do that as I haven’t seen a similar one in past. Expect something from me Tom.

Oh and here is what I copied from the CW in this music:
      STIOUHMIT

Hard to know if that is correct. Dodgy fist that!
