Spectres of Shortwave: Amanda Dawn Christie’s film about RCI Sackville now streaming

IMPORTANT UPDATE – Amanda Dawn Christie notes:

“Unfortunately [this video] was never supposed to be public – it was an accident on my part. The film will be viewable soon though, for seven days. May 26 to June 1. It is being hosted by a gallery in Montreal. That upload was only a test for them, and should never have been public. I was in a hurry, trying to get it uploaded before I packed my hard drives before I moved and I guess I didn’t check all the settings. Sorry about that. I appreciate the enthusiasm though.”

SWLing Post friend and filmmaker, Amanda Dawn Christie, has just uploaded a version of her film Spectres of Shortwave to Vimeo where it can be viewed free of charge:

looking forward to this and hoping it will be public even if for a little bit. I have tried contacting Amanda Dawn Christie on a couple of occasions but have never heard back.

Yep, still waiting on a QSL card promised for sending in a recording of her Ghost on the Air Glow. That was about a year ago.

Hello n7hex. I am profoundly sorry that the Ghosts in the Air Glow cards have not been sent out yet. Normally I would have made the cards in advance so that they would be ready to mail out as soon as the transmission was done, but in that case, due to scheduling, there was a very small window to transmit from HAARP, so what was originally only supposed to be an unpublicized test broadcast, became an actual transmission artwork that was publicized for listeners… but the cards had not yet been designed. Both the design process of those cards and mail outs has been slowed down because I have been struggling with a few serious ongoing medical issues and it is hard to stay on top of things. I’m doing my best, and I hope to be able to send those out soon.

What gallery?? Montreal is in confinement because of the coronavirus, can we even go there?
Why the hell is this movie so impossible to get? I would gladly pay to rent it online but it’s not available anywhere and Amanda doesn’t even reply to messages sent via the contact form on her own movie website.

Hi Fairlight, It was Dazibao Gallery in Montreal, and yes, it was closed they did an online screening. The link in this post was the upload I did for Dazibao to test, and then Thomas posted the link to the official screening in another post when it was officially live from May 26 – June 1.

The film had screened as an installation at Dazibao gallery from November 2018-January 2019. Due to coronavirus, the gallery had to close their space, so they asked artists who had already exhibited there for permission to screen it online for a limited time on their website. There was a different artist video each week, and my week was May 26 – June 1, and Thomas posted the link in another post.

I am sorry for not replying to emails. I have been struggling with a few serious medical conditions for the past few years, and these have made it difficult for me to stay on top of things including sending out QSL cards, sorting out distribution and exhibition of the film, replying to emails from my various websites etc. I sincerely apologize for the delays, and am doing the best I can. I will make sure to share any news about screenings or access to the film with Thomas so he can post the information here.

This is a haunting film for many reasons. Even if you just like art films, you should watch it (granted anyone here is going to be VERY interested in the shortwave aspects)
