Identify the Radio!
SS-GB is a British mini-series from 2017 in which a British homicide detective investigates a murder in a German-occupied England in a parallel universe where the Nazis won World War II. The show reminds one of the fantastic Man in the High Castle which ran from 2015 and 2019 and similarly created a world in which Germany and Japan had won WWII. In one scene, the detective, played by British actor Sam Riley, is shown listening to a radio — which model will surely be immediately recognized by most of us who have been in the SWL hobby for many years . . . see how long it takes for you to win the prize!
AR-88LF
You can tell by the alternating black bands on the left dial which is unique to the LF version
Indeed, AR88 like this one:
Well done Lee.!
Thanks for posting Dan.
AR88s were widely used in the UK into at least the 1970s / 1980s by radio amateurs / Hams. We had one in our signals shack at school in the early to mid- ‘70s. Along with half a dozen 22 sets (transceivers) and a couple of 21 sets.
Whenever Dan or anyone else posts a mystery radio or radio photo on SWLing I enjoy looking it up. And doing so, I chanced on this rather good website about the AR88:

Hope you enjoy reading it as much as I did. Turns out the AR88 was apparently used widely by Y Stations to during WW2 to gather signals intelligence, including Enigma and Tunny, that was fed to Bletchley Park for decryption. At school in the 1970s Bletchley Park, Y Stations etc were all still covered by the Official Secrets Act. So all we knew was that our AR88 was a surplus to requirement military receiver.
When I moved high schools, our head of mathematics, a school theatre producer and the school chess team coach had worked closely with Alan Turing both before the War at Cambridge (UK) and at Princeton. At the time we knew he’d done something “hush hush” during the war. But we had no idea what. His contribution came out in BBC documentaries and interviews and an interesting mention in a biography of Turing, in the 1980s and later. An amazing teacher, mentor and friend. Shaun Wiley.

Yup, either one, hard to tell them apart in a picture like that. I have a couple that I never restored, weigh a ton.
