This is disturbingly short sighted really.. In traditionally Australia the “information” stations are on MW AM & the “entertainment” stations are on VHF FM – The reasons are obvious as the information that is needed during the (all too frequent) natural disasters in Oz needs to be heard in a much wider area than FM can service. It has nothing to do with “interference to AM in the city” – sigh…
Just in the last few Months, with bush fires raging in Victoria, the FM & AM transmitters for a major city were burnt out and all evacuation info etc. was broadcast on the ABC AM station from Melbourne. Western Australians should be up in arms about this ( even if Perth residents are not!

I went to Two Rocks shops on the Northern edge of the city AM, FM were useless, DAB+ Ok
As a regular listener of ABC Perth radio, out of curiosity, how many listeners will be lost because the changeover to FM from AM, by that I am of course referring to the effective range of FM signal against the AM signals range?.
Is this move actually progress I wonder?.
