In the comments section of this post, I’d like you to share your recording of the 2026 BBC Antarctic Midwinter Broadcast!
Time and frequencies
Thanks to Dave Porter, who has confirmed these three shortwave frequencies for the annual BBC Antarctic Midwinter Broadcast (2130–2200 UTC Sunday, June 21, 2026):
- 9460 kHz from Woofferton
- 9510 kHz from Ascension
- 12070 kHz from Woofferton
- Also on DAB in the UK at 2130 UTC (2230 BST).
Please comment with your recording on this post!

Listening to the 2017 BBC Antarctic Midwinter Broadcast from the back of my vehicle in Saint-Anne-de-Beaupré, Québec, Canada.
I’ve created this dedicated post where you can comment and include links to audio and video of your 2026 Midwinter Broadcast recordings. This will allow you to post your logs and recordings at your convenience without my availability becoming the bottleneck.
Here’s the format I’d like you to leave in your comment on this post:
Name:
Listening location:
Notes: (Include frequencies and any details about your receiver and antenna.)
Link to audio or video: (YouTube, Vimeo, Internet Archive, SoundCloud, etc.)
Video and Audio Recordings
There is no way to directly upload audio in your comments; however, you can link to your recordings if you upload them to the Internet Archive (which I’d highly recommend) or any of the video streaming services like YouTube and Vimeo—or audio services like SoundCloud.
To be clear: I will not have the ability to upload your videos for you—so please don’t email me your video files. Simply upload them to one of the services above and share the link here in the comments. ?
As with each year, I’ll make sure the BAS team and the BBC receive a link with all of your recordings!

QTH: Semiluki, Voronezh region, Russia
Receiver: Tecsun PL-600, built-in-whip antenna
Reception recording https://youtube.com/watch?v=z6S4W62Slx4
From here in Hanwell near Fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada, I deployed my outdoor equipment to record the broadcast. That consisted of my Belka-DX receiver with a Sangean ANT-60 7-metre wire antenna strung to a nearby tree. The receiver was operated in pseudo-synchronous (AM2) mode with 50 Hz – 2.7 kHz bandwidth. For audio recording, I used a Tecsun ICR-100 radio recorder / digital audio player with the mp3 files subsequently downloaded to my MacBook Pro for later playback.
Reception on 12070 kHz was excellent except for the occasional lightning static crash from a thunderstorm just north of Fredericton. There was a crash start and a few words of the introduction were missed as often happens for this annual broadcast.
My recording of the broadcast on 12070 kHz can be found here:

I hope to get around to putting it in the Shortwave Radio Audio Archive.
Wow, outstanding quality.
Thanks, William. I’m lucky to have a relatively RF quiet area outside my house. And the Belka-DX is a very sensitive receiver and a 7-metre longwire suffices as an antenna. With this set-up, I’ve even snagged the low power Argentinian station in Antarctica. Here is the link to a video I took when I went to retrieve my equipment:

It had started to rain. But no worries for the receiver and recorder in the water-tight plastic box.

Hi all,
I listened to all three frequencies using:
Icom IC-8500R connected to Wellbrook Loop in loft
WinRadio G33 also connected to the Loop
Tecsun PL-660 with 7 metre wire outside.
The loft set up is a temporary one so wasn’t expecting much except for the Woofferton freqs. However, I was pleased to be able to pick up Asi on all three radios – be it very much weaker than the other two.
As I spent 6 months of my life in Asi, and quite often laid out on the beach next to the BBC antennas, I’m always very happy to receive this location 🙂
SINPO wise:
9460 – 55555
12070 – 44444
9510 – 21122

Better signal from Woofferton on 9460 and some fading on 9510 from Ascension Island and 12070 from Woofferton.
Thank you and send you fraternal greetings, my dear friend…

Started at 9460Khz, then I adjusted the noise filter. Later I shifted to 12070 winch I believe add better reception. The recording is essentially form 12070 Khz.
I had nothing form Ascension.

The best reception was on frequency 12070 kHz.
A man and a woman were talking in English, with short musical fragments.

Dave.
Hello. BBC Antarctic Midwinter Broadcast via Woofferton, UK was logged on 21 June 2026, from 21.35 till 22.00 UTC, on 12.070 kHz (the best frequency), in Subang Jaya, Malaysia. Although the SINPO was 25222 — poor signal strength with horrible QRN (electric noise in my neighborhood), I did manage to hear Happy Winter Soltice greetings from friends, family and children, occasionally interspersed with brief music clips and the closing song “Hazy Shade of Winter”. Without the QRN audible quality would have been better. I listened on an Alinco DX-R8T using a 1/4 wave external antenna mounted on the rooftop. BBC Mid Winter Broadcast 2026
I listened on all three Freq on a Flex Radio 6700 but could only hear the 2026 MidWinter Broadcast on 9460 and 12070 with 12070 having the best signal at my location here on Northern Alberta Canada.
Receive Antenna on 12070 was a LZ1AQ RX Loop in the back yard with a very low noise floor.
Receive Antenna on 9460 was a 80M loop at 30′ above the ground.
I’ve made a few recordings and took a few screen shots and the Broadcast was a pleasure to listen to.
Thanks
Karl.
