This powered speaker, a clone of the venerable Marshall Acton III, and coming from a factory that OEM’s components for LG, costs less than US$100 on sale with Amazon coupon. It sounds a little boxy (kinda normal for something of this size and price), outputs 50W RMS power.

As a streaming device, couple this with any old smartphone, tablet, PC, Android streamer, etc and you will get double the performance of this overpriced Choyong box with quadruple the flexibility.

For internet radio, the C. Crane wifi3 is much easier to use. I have one of these I bought used. The wifi implementation is also poor. It claims to support WPA2 but it does not rendering it useless on my home wifi. I had to set up a guest network with lower security settings to get it to work.

It does sound good though. I give good marks on FM and RDBS implementation.

A real shame, and in my opinion, there is no excuse to market a radio with such poor performance, especially when in this price range. $400 Canadian (plus taxes). Ouch! For about half of that, I purchased the MLite 880, a superb radio with a similar footprint.

Based on the review, I can’t think of any reason to buy a $250 radio that really doesn’t do anything except be an internet box. That’s not a radio, it’s a very expensive Alexa. Any iPhone or Android cell phone can do the same thing and actually have a device that has other uses. You will still need an internet connection, meaning it’s pretty much useless when you don’t have one. It was an excellent, non biased review, but the author was far too kind to this useless and expensive device.
