SWLing Post contributor, Dave Zantow (N9EWO), has completed a review of the Yaesu FT1XD (FT1XDR) “System Fusion” Digital-Analog Handheld Transceiver.
The FT1DX 2 meter/440 HT provides both analog and digital communications on both bands with up to 5 watts. It also has wideband receiver that covers from 500 kHz to 999 MHz (US version, less cellular) including the AM and FM broadcast band. It even has a built-in ferrite bar for mediumwave/AM reception.

Jim, I have the Japanese FT1XD, and the mod and reset have been done. It still won’t tx above 146 or 440. What else do I need to do?
Does it have continuous tuning (turning a knob) to increase or decrease listened to frequency? or is it one of those radios you have to know exactly what frequency and punch it in on the keyboard every time you want to listen to a new frequency?
It is continuous tuning and in the settings you can adjust the frequency step size.
That just put the FD1XD on my consideration list. Any SWL rig that you can’t do that with is .. well .. E-waste. The only justification is trancievers so you dont’ accidentally transmit on some off frequency band.
