Many thanks to SWLing Post contributor, Emilio Ruiz, who writes:
Hi Thomas,
I’m sending you and The SWLing Post readers these screenshots from the cult
movie Sneakers; a great movie about incipient world of hacker security
(phreaking, hacking, cryptography, etc).In a scene with Robert Redford and Dan Aykroyd, it looks like a radio communications receiver in the background, but i don’t know what brand is.
Could you help for identification?
Great job spotting that radio in the background! Readers: please comment if you can help Emilio identify this rig!
Yaesu FRG 7 Communications receiver ..
The Yaesu FRG-7 is an all mode receiver covering 200 kHz to 29.90 MHz in four bands. Modes of reception include AM, USB and LSB/CW. Great receiver even today.. I think I still have one somewhere.
The one on the left is a YR-901 CW-RTTY reader, the one on the right is a FV-101Z external VFO

Never saw G7VFW’s earlier reply the first time this page was viewed, if so wouldn’t have said anything.
It looks like two pieces of accessory equipment. The piece on the right is a Yaesu FV – 101 VFO(variable frequency oscillator). It was sold as an accessory to the FT – 101 series of ham radio transceivers.
Left is the YR901 RTTY reader and right is the FT101Z external VFO. Both from Yaesu.
Not sure, but judging from the front panel, it seems a YAESU or, maybe a SOMMERKAMP rig, then maybe I’m wrong, but… have a look at these

look at the controls positioning and style of knobs; also, I tried to process the image (crop and elaborate) but the resolution isn’t high enough; having an higher resolution image may surely help identifying the rig
