I was recently contacted by Shortwave Radio Audio Archive subscriber, Geoff Gilham, who asked: “Do you know if any recordings of Edward Startz exist?”
That’s a very good question, because unfortunately, we have no off-air recordings of Eddy Startz in the archive at present. Startz had a very long tenure at RNW retiring from the Happy Station at the end of 1969, so there must be recordings out there.
Post readers: If you have off-air recordings of Eddy Startz on The Happy Station Show, please comment or contact me. We’d love to add them to the archive! Many thanks!
I have a 7 minute interview between Startz and Arthur Cushen that I am happy to send to… well, anyone…
Here’s a partial recording of Eddy Startz’s 25th anniversary Happy Station celebration program: it was a big occasion with an orchestra in-studio.
The recording from RN (100 minutes) has some gaps, including the loss of the ending, and some repetition of material, but most of the program appears to have been captured.

I decided not to wait… I’ve uploaded the Happy Station Christmas Broadcast 23 December 1956.

I’m sure you’ll agree this is a very, very special broadcast!
Thank you, Walter!
Ray: Could there be anything wrong with the dates of two of these broadcasts? 5 January 1961 was a Thursday, not a Sunday, and 4 June 1965 was a Friday.
Happy Station Christmas 1956 with the Sweet 16s.
I will upload this to my website later this year.
I have around 400 full shows from 1952 to 1969, but these are studio tapes.
As for off air recordings. I have a few bits and pieces. These are from his pre-Radio Netherlands days. Made between 1928 and 1933. These were recordings Philips engineers made at the Philips Laboratory in Eindhoven as programs were going out, recorded on glass discs.
As an 81 year old Scotsman I have many happy memories of The Happy Station.
My father tuned in every Sunday in the Forties and Fifties and through this I developed my lifelong Shortwave interest.
Can still remember “A Nice Cup Of Tea” and am able to whistle the Dutch national anthem…Hah!

Well, perhaps not when they were originally broadcast by Radio Nederland, but there is some of his work in a PCJ Radio International via WRMI recording I made:
https://shortwavearchive.com/archive/pcj-6th-anniversary-special-via-wrmi-march-14-2015 (starting around minute 32)
Three complete shows, all studio recordings:

Ray.
Thanks for those, Ray. I may have actually heard the 4 June 1965 show. I’ll have to check my logbooks.
I think Keith Perron has some and I recall he featured one or more of the recordings of original Happy Station programs on his revived Happy Station show, which used to be broadcast over WRMI. I’ll check to see if I have any recordings of these replayed programs but Keith might read this and offer up something from his archives.
I guess I’ll add a few more.
You-Tube Video of early Radio Netherlands. Eddy is part way thru. I love the rotatable antenna:

The following page from Radio Without Boarders has a nice write up on Eddy Startz and Happy Station.
I think it has the same video as above. But there are a couple of audio clips from 1938.

And the Offshore Echos site has a write up with a couple of audio files at the bottom of the page:

And for some great info on Radio Netherlands, I suggest you start at the first page of Radio Without Boarders:
