Many thanks to SWLing Post contributor Carlos Latuff, who shares the following radiofax images and notes:
Hurricane Erin, featured on NOAA’s 24/48 tropical surface forecast, received a radiofax last night in Porto Alegre, Brazil, from the USCG radio station in Honolulu, Hawaii (16135 kHz USB).
Curiously, the signal from the USCG radio station in Honolulu reached Porto Alegre MUCH better than the signal from the USCG radio station in Boston. Honolulu is approximately 12,744 km away from Porto Alegre, while Boston is 8,307 km.

TC Erin is also now featuring on the European Faxes from Germany – prognosis for Sat 22nd August

Thanks for the tip, Neil. Greetings from Brazil.
Hey Jock, can’t post a link here without being caught by the anti-spam filter. Just look for “Carlos’ Experience and Motivation for Receiving Kydodo News via Radiofax”. Greetings from Brazil.
Carlos,
As always, very, VERY, cool!
Someday I need to learn how to receive those radiofaxes.
Maybe someday you could re-post your technique and tools for doing that.
Cheers, Jock
You can give it a try by using a “kiwiSDR” – just search for kiwisdr map , and pick a radio , then in there kiwiSDR interface find “fax” under the “extensions” list. Then have a play & find a fax transmitter that is transmitting & the Kiwi can hear. 🙂
Doing it from you own receiver is more rewarding, but that is a way to “play”
