Well, I found several videos on YouTube showing issues with the PL-680 : 1 or 2 kHz off-frequency and severe soft-mute problems with weak signals. Maybe faulty batches but it makes me hesitate…

If you had to choose between this new PL-680 and a Sangean ATS-909X, which one would you go for ? Or would you purchase another one ?

Since the price of the PL-680 is less than half that of the Sangean ATS-909X, I would be tempted to get a PL-680. I think the Sangean’s MW reception might be better than the PL-680, but for that price difference I could buy a dedicated MW radio. Most of the time, I think the PL-680 would have an edge on the Sangean for shortwave performance.

  I had a look at the (excellent) review you mention, but the PL-680 is not part of the test. However, from what I read on your blog, it’s as good as the 660 on SW, if not slightly better, right ?

    Correct, Enzo. I think the PL-680 has an edge on the PL-660 on the shortwave bands.

Personally I would never buy a portable radio that doesn’t work properly with rechargable batteries (909X).
